I did two internships, both were career oriented related to biomedicine. In the first one I learned the basics of medicine, including different types of medicines and diseases, and how doctors should ideally interact with patients. Although I didn’t receive any special recognition, I gained a better understanding of medical practices and patient care. and in the second one I learned the basics of cancer biology, which was my first in-depth exposure to the topic. I found it fascinating. I was also assigned a task to write a review paper, which helped me deepen my understanding of cancer research.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
During my internships, I faced challenges that helped me grow and develop new skills. In my first internship, understanding how different medicines and diseases are interrelated required significant effort as I was new to the field. I learned to organize and absorb large amounts of medical information systematically. In my second internship, writing a review paper on cancer biology was particularly challenging, as it required me to analyze research articles critically. Through this, I developed better research, analytical, and scientific writing skills.

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
For both internships, I planned and managed my participation to align with my interest in biomedicine. I proactively sought opportunities in medical practice and cancer biology to explore areas relevant to my future career. I identified mentors, set goals for learning, and managed my time effectively to complete my tasks, such as the review paper in the second internship, within deadlines. This taught me the importance of careful planning to achieve meaningful learning outcomes.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Both internships required consistent effort and dedication over time. In the first internship, I committed to understanding the basics of medicine and patient care, despite the steep learning curve. In the second internship, my perseverance was evident in completing the review paper, as it involved extensive reading and synthesizing complex information. My commitment to these internships not only improved my knowledge but also reinforced my determination to pursue a career in biomedicine
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
Through my internships, I engaged with issues of global significance such as healthcare and cancer research. The first internship highlighted the importance of effective doctor-patient interactions and accessible medical care, which are critical for improving global health outcomes. The second internship deepened my understanding of cancer biology, a field at the forefront of global medical research, and helped me appreciate the role of scientific innovation in addressing life-threatening diseases like cancer.
