With careful planning and coordination, I had the opportunity to host the Alumni Connect panel session at school—an event designed to bridge the gap between current students, interested parents, and alumni. This platform allowed students to engage with past graduates, gaining insight into the college admissions process and life beyond school. As the student coordinator, I worked closely with event-leading teachers, the school community, and alumni to ensure a seamless and enriching experience for all attendees.

This experience helped me recognize my strengths in management and communication. Organizing a structured yet interactive session required me to leverage my ability to coordinate between different stakeholders efficiently. However, I identified the need to further develop my problem-solving skills, especially when dealing with last-minute scheduling conflicts and adapting to real-time changes in the event flow. For instance, when one of the scheduled speakers had to cancel at the last moment, I had to quickly find a replacement and adjust the schedule accordingly while ensuring that the flow of discussions remained engaging. This ability to think critically under pressure was an important learning experience for me.

Managing schedules, ensuring that alumni were comfortable with their roles, and addressing technical difficulties required adaptability and quick thinking. One of the biggest challenges was facilitating engaging discussions that would benefit all attendees. Additionally, I had to ensure that every panelist had an equal opportunity to speak and that student concerns were addressed meaningfully. When a few students hesitated to ask questions, I took the initiative to prompt discussions based on common queries I had researched beforehand, helping to break the ice and create an open environment for dialogue. This event sharpened my ability to think on my feet and handle unexpected challenges with composure.

From the initial planning phase to execution, this event demanded a strategic approach. I had to initiate outreach to alumni, draft invitations, and create an effective schedule for discussions. Working with teachers and school authorities, I ensured that the event aligned with student needs while also considering logistical aspects such as time management, seating arrangements, and technical setup. Creating an event of this scale required detailed planning, from drafting an agenda to setting up communication channels with alumni across different time zones. I also created a contingency plan to address potential issues, such as backup speakers in case of last-minute cancellations. This experience reinforced my planning and organizational skills, making me more confident in handling large-scale events in the future.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Hosting an event of this scale required consistent dedication over several weeks. From organizing meetings to finalizing details with alumni, I had to remain proactive and committed to ensuring the event’s success. Despite occasional setbacks, such as last-minute unavailability of speakers, I adapted by rearranging discussion groups and ensuring that the session remained informative and engaging. In the days leading up to the event, I had to put in additional hours to finalize details, conduct dry runs, and address technical issues with the event space setup. The sense of accomplishment I felt after the event reinforced my belief in the value of perseverance, as I saw students leaving the session with greater clarity and enthusiasm for their academic futures.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

The success of the Alumni Connect panel was a direct result of effective collaboration. Coordinating with teachers, fellow students, and alumni required clear communication and teamwork.
