The primary goal of our CAS project was to organize and deliver a memorable farewell event including fabulous dance performances, Games, a Disco and a feast for our seniors that they would cherish as a lasting memory reminding them of their school farewell days. We aimed to create an experience that would leave them with a sense of belonging and a strong connection to our school. However, we faced numerous challenges, including a significant reduction in the budget compared to previous years, restricted venue options due to ongoing construction, and last-minute resource shortages. Despite these obstacles, our organizing committee, including myself, persevered to ensure the event’s success.
LO 3: Demonstrate How to Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
Organizing the farewell required meticulous planning and coordination. I am generally an organized person, but this project tested my organizational skills to the fullest. The most difficult part was initiating the project, especially with the budget cuts and venue restrictions. However, I discovered that I am capable of rallying a team and creating a plan that adapts to unexpected challenges. This experience has made me more confident in my ability to plan and initiate future projects, as I now understand the importance of flexibility and proactive problem-solving.
LO 5: Demonstrate the Skills and Recognize the Benefits of Working Collaboratively
Working collaboratively was both a necessity and a challenge during this project. While I generally find it easy to work with others, the pressure of organizing a large event brought out different dynamics. There were conflicts, particularly with some teacher in-charges, but we managed to handle them through open communication and compromise. This experience highlighted the importance of teamwork, as we relied on each other’s strengths to overcome obstacles and deliver a successful event. Collaboration was key in making the farewell a memorable experience for our seniors.
LO 6: Demonstrate Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
Although this project was primarily focused on a school event, it touched upon broader issues such as effective resource management and the importance of creating lasting, positive experiences within communities. These are globally relevant themes, as they relate to how we celebrate and value individuals in our societies. Understanding the impact of creating meaningful experiences has contributed to my personal growth, as I now see the importance of fostering connections and memories that can influence people’s lives positively.
LO 7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
Ethical considerations played a significant role in this project, particularly in how we allocated our limited budget and dealt with conflicts. Ensuring that all decisions were fair and that we maximized the resources available was a priority. This experience made me more aware of the ethical implications of resource management and the importance of making decisions that are in the best interest of everyone involved. Before this activity, I hadn’t given much thought to the ethics of event planning, but now I recognize its importance and will carry this understanding forward.
Final Takeaway:
Through this CAS Project, I developed key learner profile characteristics such as being a communicator, a thinker, and principled. The project was closely linked to my studies in business management, particularly in areas like resource allocation and team management. The highlight of this experience was the positive feedback from the seniors, which made all the challenges worthwhile. This experience challenged my perspectives on conflict resolution and resource management, and I learned the value of perseverance, collaboration, and ethical decision-making. In the future, I plan to apply these lessons in both my academic and personal life, and I hope to contribute further to my community by organizing events that bring people together and create lasting memories.
