HDP PS Ultimate Frisbee (Activity)

Frisbee has been an integral part of my life for the past 10 years, during which I have competed in numerous tournaments, from inter school competitions to international championships.

Throughout this journey, I have continuously assessed my abilities to identify both my strengths and areas that needed improvement. I recognized that while I excelled in certain aspects of the game, such as cutting and field awareness, I needed to refine my handling skills and jumping ability. With the guidance of my coach, I dedicated focused practice sessions to strengthening these weaker areas. I incorporated targeted drills into my training routine, including handling exercises and plyometric workouts to improve my vertical jump. Over time, I saw noticeable progress, which boosted my confidence and enhanced my overall gameplay.

Participating in this tournament required me to step outside my comfort zone and take on new challenges. Managing academics while training with a relatively new team was not easy, and at times, I felt overwhelmed. However, I pushed through, learning to balance my responsibilities effectively. Additionally, one of the biggest hurdles I faced was my initial struggle with communication and team bonding. I had to work on opening up to my teammates, which I gradually improved through interactions during travel, training, and accreditation processes. By the end of the experience, I had developed not only new frisbee skills but also essential life skills such as time management, adaptability, and teamwork.

Joining the tournament was initially challenging as I had to balance my academic workload with adapting to a relatively new team. Despite these difficulties, I reminded myself that every experience has a starting point, so I embraced the opportunity and took on the challenge. I remained determined throughout, gaining valuable lessons along the way. Additionally, I formed meaningful bonds with my teammates, especially during practice sessions and team activities.

At first, I found it difficult to connect with my teammates as I was not naturally open with them. However, working together on the accreditation process provided an opportunity to interact and communicate. As we spent more time together, particularly while traveling, we became closer. I made an effort to engage with them whenever possible, which helped me build strong friendships. This experience taught me the importance of being open-minded and improving my communication skills, which ultimately strengthened our teamwork and trust both on and off the field.

Ultimate Frisbee relies on self-officiation, requiring players to resolve disputes among themselves. This meant ensuring that both teammates and opponents maintained fair play and sportsmanship. Throughout the tournament, we encountered several disagreements and moments of contact, which required clear communication to resolve. We listened to each other’s perspectives, discussed our viewpoints, and reached fair agreements. This experience reinforced the importance of making fair decisions, thinking rationally, and maintaining respectful communication with both teammates and opponents.
