Rural immersion was a wonderful experience,with no devices and no special facilities we had an experience with an outburst of thrill,adventure and out of book learning.This opportunity from the school gave me a new perspective as I stepped in to the beauty of nature,learning the traditions from the villagers,dipping in a new culture,learning and adding a helping hand to agricultural activities for a few days,trekking up to the den of a tiger where villagers worship their national animal.Further more spending time with the children in a school located in the village,learning prayers and learning to be grateful for what we have.
Learning Outcome 4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Getting out of my comfort zone
It was not an easy task to have a change in our daily routine,living without mobile phones,without any privileges,without AC and fans,helping in farms and working so hard everyday.This CAS experience was different than any other and the hardest experience till now,moreover this CAS experience proved my commitment as there was no day when I did no put 100% of my efforts it was a fun trip but also a very challenging one.The rural life is a very difficult one to live as it require heavy hard work and huge responsibilities with very minimal learnings.
Learning Outcome 6 – Engagement with Global Issues
During our village visits, we interacted with the locals and learned about their daily lives. It was eye-opening to see how different rural life is from urban living. Despite having fewer resources, the villagers seemed content and happy, while in cities, people often feel dissatisfied even with more facilities. The lack of basic necessities like proper housing, clean water, and access to education was clear. We also noticed issues like poor health habits, gender inequality in education, and limited opportunities for quality learning. These challenges are linked to several global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, and Reduced Inequalities. This experience made me realize the importance of working towards reducing these inequalities and improving living conditions in rural areas.
Learning Outcome 7 – Ethics of Choices and Actions
At first, I was unsure about staying in a rural area for six days but the experience turned out to be both challenging and rewarding. Adjusting to a different lifestyle without fans, dealing with insects, and eating local food was difficult but also gave me a new perspective. We also realised of how we waste energies and food so easily whereas villagers work hard to grow them and respect each and every resource so much.
This rural experience taught me about sustainability, community, and interconnectedness. Watching the dairy production process and understanding the role of cows in daily life helped me see sustainable practices in action. Spending time with students and interacting with villagers gave me a deeper understanding of their way of life. Speaking with Panchayat leaders also helped me see how local governance connects villagers to the government to address their needs. These experiences helped me understand how different choices and actions shape rural life.
