My trip to Sankheda was extremely enriching for me. This trip gave me an eye opening experience to learn about life in rural areas. I understood more about the how people lived in villages and gained new perspective on life. It was a six day trip where we engaged in several activities like farming, milking cows, teaching children at the Ashramshala, visiting people living in the villages, learned more about farming and the agriculture sector, visited the local furniture market in Sankheda . I demonstrated all the CAS strands. Creativity, when I tought science to the kids at the Asharamshala and played games with them. Activity, when we learned farming and milked the cows. And service when we served food to the children at the Ashramshala.

Learning Outcome 2 ;Demonstrate that Challenges have been Undertaken, Developing New Skills in the Process : On the six day trip we did something new everyday, as we went in a rural area adapting to that lifestyle was a little challenging. Also everyday we tried different activities which we had never tried before. For example on the second day we learned the basics of farming, like weeding this was obviously a challenge because we are not used to that activity. However gradually we overcame that challenge and developed a new skill. When we went to the Ashramshala we were supposed to teach the children living there, to me teaching children is a challenging task especially when I have never interacted with children living in rural areas. Language was an obstacle as in order to teach them we could not use english words while teaching, hence teaching was extremely challenging. Gradually with the help of my peers I was able to overcome that challenge and develop a new skill.

Learning Outcome 5; Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

While teaching the children science we were group teaching, which requires us to work collaboratively so that the children can learn new things in the best possible way. It was definitely challenging since we were not used to interacting with children living in such areas, however with the support of one another we were successfully able to deliver the content to the children.

Learning Outcome 6 ;Demonstrate Engagement with Issues of Global Significance : 

On the fourth day we visited the villages, we interacted with the locals living there and identified several issues. They have been living in extremely poor conditions and hardly managing to survive. The major issue I identified is education, the children we interacted with in the village did not have ambition, they believe that they want to become farmer when they grow up like their family. Several kids dropped out of school and joined their family to work, to provide and earn for the family. This leads the cycle of poverty to continue and the family is stuck with that lifestyle. We noticed that a little girl hadn’t been attending school and their family so we convinced her family to send her to school which was a very challenging task. We also noticed that despite of having several health issues people would not stop consumptions of tobacco and would smoke all day, they were addicted and smoked in front of their children which is not good example for the children as well. We tried to convince them not to smoke however they would not listen. There are many more global issues which we identified in the villages and hope that in the near future there is growth and development.

Learning outcome 7;  Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions : 

As we visited a area we were not used to live in it was hard for me to adjust there, at first I was hesitant that living in such a setting would not be easy for me however after living there it made me realise that there are greater things in the community. It made me more grateful for everything I have. Since we were in rural areas we needed to be mindful of what we say and if our actions would have offended anyone. I also learned about the ethical implications in farming. We also sat in the graham panchayat where people discuss about the further steps to be taken for village planning, ways to make life easier for the villagers. They have ton consider the ethics of the decisions and choices they make every meeting, whether they are morally right or not. Also I learnt that wasting food is morally and ethically wrong, it made me value food even more. I will no on be mindful of my actions and choices I make.
