FS MUN 10.0

(Completed the strand C- creativity as I was a part of the decor committee.)

I was part of the organizing committee of Fountainhead Schools Modelled United Nations 10.0. The 2 day MUN Conference was the 10th edition hosted by our school Fountainhead. This edition was a success with 10 committee’s and over 300+ delegates. I was a part of the decor committee and my role was to suggest ideas for decor as per the theme, create the logos, photo booths, backdrops and even help change them on day between the events. As an arts student, this work was really exciting for me. It was easy for me to come up with ideas and help execute them.

LO1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Even though I have been a part of the organizing committee before, this experience was different. This time I was more invested. I had a part in coming up with decor ideas, photo booth ideas, how things are going to be executed and other small things as well such as what all resources are needed. I could identify that I was good at coming up with creative ideas that go well with our theme. I really enjoyed thinking of the whole layout about how can we decorate the different venues. This was my strength. And now that I know about this, I can apply it in other events and be useful.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

There were a lot of challenges that we had to undergo before and during the event. While organising an event there are a lot of difficulties that one can face. The ones that we faced in the decor team were related to receiving resources. There were a lot of decor items that we needed to prepare and we have the tasks assigned however, sometimes we would not get the resources on time and other times we might not have enough slots to complete the assigned task on time. But we overcame the challenges as a team. Another challenge was the budget. We had a tight budget and we had to use our creative and critical thinking skills to ensure that the decor was creative yet under the budget. These were the challenges faced before hand, on day the difficulties were different. We had everything done beforehand but yet a few issues were committees requiring more resources, OCs not present in all the committees, delegates or the chairs needing something. I would personally use my self-management skills to ensure that I fulfill my tasks and if some other help is needed I do that too. Overall, these skills will also be useful to me in the future.

LO5-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

FSMUN is a big event and so we have a big team for it. There were a lot of departments made under which I was in decor. The decor team also had roughly 15-20 people. While working in a team I usually like to divide tasks and ensure that everyone is doing their part. This makes things easier and the work gets done on time. During this particular activity, there were a few challenges such as some OCs cancelling on us but using our organising skills, we would find an alternate person to do so. Sometimes I would have to take up some additional tasks and I would be fine with it. Working as a team we could make this event a success. It is important to be able to work collaboratively because in future we are going to get a lot of tasks/projects which will require working collaboratively and therefore this event was very helpful.

LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Even though I was a part of organising the event, the aim of Model United Nations is to educate the upcoming world leaders about the ongoing world issues and work a way out to solve them peacefully. There were different agenda’s set across different committee. Knowing about the global issues educate us to brainstorm the whys/hows and whos of the issues and come up with peaceful solutions.

CONCLUSION-

Overall this event has added up a lot of value for me. Through this I could identify my strengths and weakness and get to reflect upon them, engage with others to learn how to work collaboratively, encounter new challenges and also get to know about the current world issues. As a part of the decor team, I wanted to ensure that the decor contributed to the formal setting which created a conference ambiance in such a way that it also showed cultural respect. I plan to apply my learnings of this experience in the future where I get tasks to work collaboratively.
