The animal shelter I visited was near Abhva named Nature Club. They initiated this club to rescue and take care of injured animals such as dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc. Our task was to help the staff of Nature Clubs with regular activities such as chopping vegetables, changing food and water for the animals, cleaning their cages, and feeding them.
LO 5 – Demonstrate skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
On the very first day when we were assigned the tasks of chopping the vegetables and changing the food and water of animals and birds in their cages, it seemed a time-consuming and boring task. But fortunately we were wrong. The tasks were divided equally which resulted in the tasks being fun as we interacted and fed animals and birds by going directly into their cages. Also, we did not realize when the time got over as everyone was really involved in the tasks they performed so it was not time-consuming either.
LO 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The global issue with which I dealt here was Life on Land. The animals in Nature Club had no place to live and had minimal access to food. Many of the animals were even injured and required direct feeding. This is why we initiated to help those animals by directly getting involved in activities of cleaning the cages of birds and directly changing their water and food bowls. As it is a significant global issue, I also spread the awareness of helping animals and birds amongst my friends verbally and through social media as well.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
During this initiative, my friends and I had to be mindful of our actions and this was a sensitive issue we were dealing with. We had a guide along with us that came with us to teach us the process of changing the food and water of animals and birds in the cage. We had to understand and perform it precisely as food and water are crucial for their survival. Other than that chopping of vegetables also needed to be done precisely as the animals were fed vegetables that had dirty roots that needed to be removed so that it did not harm the animals.
In conclusion, this initiative of helping animals and birds made me deal with issues that had global significance and required me to make ethical choices to make sure that our goal was fulfilled. It also made me realize that performing such tasks can be fun and efficient if it is done collaboratively.
