Creative mela was an event organized by the DP students for the MYP students, wherein I volunteered to conduct the workshop of bleach painting. I along with my partner teached bleach painting to students from 3 different grades(7,8 & 9), with an average of 6-7 students per grade. To transfer my knowledge of bleach painting to the students, I first had to learn the skill of bleach painting and had to prepare examples, plan the activity and the materials required for the same. It was a whole new experience for me, as I had never learned an art like this before and creative mela gave me an opportunity to step forward and learn a new skill of bleach painting and extend my learnings to the MYP students.  During this experience, I faced several challenges like learning and understanding the art by myself, managing the learners in the workshop altogether and also keeping a check on the resources required for the upcoming sessions. Despite having experiences in managing teams, the creative mela acted as a whole new experience with new challenges and learnings where I demonstrated my creativity and served as an workshop facilitator to the MYP students. I chose being a part of the creative mela bleach painting workshop as I wanted to expand my creative horizons and get a new experience of managing a workshop.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth Screen reader support enabled.

During the creative mela I could identify my strengths and weaknesses after every workshop, wherein I could observe that I strengthened in managing the students effectively and guiding them through the workshop, which helped me in leading the workshop effectively. I figured out that I could develop myself in communicating well with the students, wherein I faced a challenge where a couple of students did not know that there was a need for a specific color t-shirt for performing the art of bleach painting. 

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Trying an art and craft activity was something which I tried for the first time, therefore I took learning the artform as a challenge and developed a whole new skill of creativity in myself through this experience. I also got an opportunity to develop the skill of leadership and open-mindedness, wherein I lead the workshop and sharpened my leadership skills, adding on listening to new creative ideas proposed by the students for performing bleach painting helped me sharpen and develop my skill of open-mindedness.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.

I conducted this workshop along with my partner, where we collaboratively worked together in conducting the workshop. Working collaboratively with my partner helped me in easing my work and making the workshops much more fruitful and fun for the students, wherein we divided our roles like taking attendance, distributing materials etc, which helped us in effectively utilizing the time for a good workshop

To conclude,this experience not just helped my build and sharpen by social,leadership and creativity skills but also helped me build and sharpen my intrapersonal skills like open-minded, balanced and communicator and helped me step out of my comfort zone and try a whole new creative skill of bleach painting and extend that learning to the students through the medium of creative mela.
