FSMUN 2024

For my CAS experience I volunteered in the FSMUN (Fountainhead School Model United Nations.) A Model United nation (MUN) is a conference typically held over a period of 2 days where people posing as delegates from various countries participate in committees where discussion of pressing global issues such as international conflict, climate change and Human Rights Violation. I myself have participated in several MUNs as I have had a keen interest in debating and enjoyed the entire experience. For FSMUN 10.0 I decided to be part of the Organising Committee so that I could try a new role that I had only tried once before.

The goals I intended to achieve by participating in this experience were as follows…

-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills (Learning Goal 2)

My assignement as being a part of the Finance organizing committee was quite new as the last time I was present as a part of the organizing committee I was assigned to preparing study guides for committees so this was a completely new challenge which helped me develop new skills, such as social skills through my interactions with various people, this lead to the develpopment of learning goals 2.

-Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively (Learning Goal 5)

My role required me to coordinate with various people part of the organizing committee and outside of it as well to ensure a smooth flow of the event. Such as coordination with the Kitchen head for arrangement of food and communication with the head of decor to see the allocation for the resources required. This led to development of learning goal 5.

LO7– “During the event,I was assigned a venue where I was supposed to facilitate chits between delegates and chair, where delegates had written a variety of content on the chits ranging from questions to inappropriate statements, I recognized the fact that to less burden the chair of the committee would be making a decision for which chits would be deemed inappropriate this led me to evaluate my actions as being ethically and morally correct as this eased the burden on my chairs with my evaluation of my actions leading me to achieve LO7.

For this year’s FSMUN which happened 24-25th January, I was assigned to the Finance section of the Organising Comittee. As a part of my role I was assigned to the budget segregation of the section and was responsible for allocating funds for various aspects such as Fuel for transportation of delegates along with cost for preparing food for the delegates during the MUN.

To summarize, this CAS experience was quite memorable as it was a spectacular event that had a smooth flow due to the contribution of the entire organizing committee’s efforts, this expereience also allowed me to achieve the 2 above mentioned learning goals.
