Grade 12 Farewell

This was an unforgettable event which I was a part of. This was the event where we grade 11 students organised a farewell for the grade 12 students. We had to manage every single thing, from giving the invite, to deciding the menu, choreographing and performing the dance, making the decor and deciding the decor ideas as well. From the start to the end everything was done by the students. We were given a budget and couldn’t exceed it so while planning everything we even had to keep the budget in mind and do our best. The process had its own ups and downs but at the end we all learned a lot and yes, everyone enjoyed it at the same time.

Learning Outcome 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Through this event I recognized myself in a manner where I got to understand that I am comfortable working with different people and rather that interests me more. At the same time I even got to know that organising these events has a different place in my heart where I enjoy doing these things a lot and can organise as many events as you ask me to. Usually I am an organised person and so was I during the event planning. Every event has its own problems and so did this one. As it was a farewell we wanted it to be the most memorable day for our seniors and were trying to do everything to make them feel special but as it was taking place in school and was a school event there were many restrictions which stopped us from doing of lot it but due to which many issues were caused but at the same time school as well supported us a lot and helped us solve those problems. I learned a lot of things from this event whether it be organising within a huge budget, working with a huge number of people and a lot more. Many of the skills I learned from the event were such which I didn’t know or learned before. And definitely due to this learning experience planning and initiating anything in the future will be easier now. Planning events is a thing which everyone should know how to do, because that is a very normal part of everyone’s life, especially in India. Thus, it is very important to learn how to plan and initiate an event.

Learning Outcome 4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

This activity was the most difficult at the place where we had to daily come for an early-inn even on our holidays like on saturday for a month we came to school to work the full day. Due to which everyone was very tired and no one was sleeping well. The only commitment required to complete this activity was to daily be present in the meetings and in the prep at the same time be very active and energetic to do the work and put some inputs as well. It is not easy to commit to things and be persistent towards it, because it takes a lot of motivation, dedication and interest towards the work you are doing. You cannot succeed until you have your commitments in place and show persistence in life. It doesn’t matter whether it be an event or just school homework.

Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working with others is not an easy nor a difficult task for me due to me being interested in making new friends but at the same time getting very nervous while communicating with new people. In this activity it was easy for me to work with others because mostly all were such people whom I knew and talked to. Yes, of course there were such people who tried to make a lot of problems in the event planning but anyhow we managed to handle them. Working collaboratively with others is a very important skill which everyone should know and be comfortable with, as in future wherever you go you will have you at least work with people collaboratively and if you are comfortable with it from now itself it won’t hinder you much later on. The event was a success only and only because of the teamwork we all had, because everyone knew that in the last 3 days whether a person be in dance or in decor or lin logistics they will have to handle and help up in everything in the last days and so did each one of them. And due to the mutual understanding and the teamwork we had we all were able to give a good farewell to our seniors and make this event a success.

Learning Outcome 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions:

This activity involved a lot of ethical issues where we had to keep in mind every bit of what we were doing doesn’t hurt any of our senior. We had to be very careful with what we were displaying or speaking or doing for the event and should not been offensive to anyone. This is an event which takes place once in your life time and is very special to everyone. These ethical issues affected us a lot while deciding the decor. There were many such decor we thought for them but had to cancel them due to ethical issues. Such as, we made them write whatever they wished to on the discs we made and thought to hang them on the event day but after their wrote and the school authority checked there were such things which were offending kids due to which we had to remove and discard those discs and couldn’t display them. These issue made me feel very irritated and bad at the same time because it was an idea everyone loved and even was initiated in the best way but due to the ethical issues we had to discard it. But at the same time I also understand the ethical point of view and why it is important to do that, hence, in the end the decision was right to discard them.

This activity in the end made me learn a lot of things and gave me an experience as well of how organising a farewell looks like. How the budget is handled, how collaboratively we have to work, how to work beforehand and in the end nothing is possible without your commitment in it and perseverance as well.
