In this experience, I experienced rural life. I interacted with the locals, APMC Authority, the gram panchayat, local underprivileged kids, farmers, and many more people. I learned and helped in their daily activities such as basket making, milking, cleaning, plowing, sowing, cutting crops, pottery, and much more. We also participated in treks where we connected with the nature, visit caves, and search for wildlife.
I love to connect and interact with different people. To understand the world from their viewpoint and perspective. I am interested in living their daily life and to empathising with them for their struggles and learning from them to be happy with what we have gotten. I also love to explore the nature that is long gone in the urban city.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
This experience required me to leave behind my normal life for a week and experience rural life. This took a lot of commitment because the whole week we were not able to do any of our work or study.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance AND LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
During the trip, we engaged in multiple global issues such as
- Quality Education – We visited local government schools and played with children and taught them different games and brought smiles to their faces.
- Gender Equality – We also learned how women of the village take initiative and have their very own accounts and how they are the breadwinners in the family and are independent.
- Affordable and Clean Energy and Sustainable Cities and Communities- The village was very modern where they had renewable sources for energy which were also affordable by almost all in the village.
The sustainable development goals that we focused on are
- SDG 4 – Where we visit local schools and aashrams to understand their learning habit and environment.
- SDG 5 – Where we learn how the women of these households are contributing to the income of the family.
- SDG 7 and 11 – Where we learn how farmers and the villagers try to use environmentally friendly equipment in their daily life to make their community more sustainable.
We also reflected upon how privileged we are and how our actions and decisions can affect others and people who are not very well-to-do.
The skills that I developed/showcased through this experience –
- Inquirer – We inquired about daily local life and how things works in the rural areas.
- Communicators – As we were required to interact with many on the trip.
- Open-minded – We learned to accept the local culture and religion.
- Reflective – We took the learnings of this trip, applied them in our daily lives, and reflected on our status in the community.
