Farewell

Farewell is an event that grade 11 students host each year for their seniors, it is a way to bid them bye and mark the end of their school’s journey. I was present in this event as a part of the decor team since I have always enjoyed arts and the farewell was a way for me to engage in the same.

It was also very refreshing since in DP I had lost the balance between academics and hobbies. I was able to enjoy arts and crafts once again through this experience. This experience also was a platform for me to learn various life skills and get out of my comfort zone

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken.
We had to organize the whole farewell within a particular budget, the same posed as a challenge since we had a lot of ideas and wished to make the farewell as grand as possible. We learned ways to achieve similar results as our expectation but with cheaper alternatives. I believe that this enriched my money management skills, and that it will be useful in my future endeavors where I work with budgets.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
The decor team had to come for early-in throughout the weeks of preparation, it was particularly difficult because I was not used to getting up early. But in order to complete this experience it was mandatory for me to show-up, this tested my commitment towards the CAS experience. I learned that in order to achieve set goals, I have to step out of my comfort zone and that may include making lifestyle changes and compromising comfort.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:
There were times where times where I was not able to make few decor pieces with perfection, on times such as these I swapped my work with someone who had skills required to perfect the piece. I learned that while working in teams it is important to recognize your and your teammates strengths and weaknesses, in order to work more efficiently. I also learned how to accept my own weaknesses so that I do not cause hindrances in the creative process.

In conclusion, participating in the farewell decor team was a rewarding experience. It allowed me to reconnect with my passion for art while also developing valuable life skills. Overcoming challenges with the budget and pushing myself to wake up early instilled a sense of perseverance and commitment. The collaborative nature of the project highlighted the importance of teamwork and self-awareness. This experience has given me valuable tools that I can carry forward into future endeavors, both creative and collaborative.
