Rock climbing is a taxing process that requires a lot of commitment, courage and perseverance to get it right. However, it is an extremely rewarding experience as it feels rejuvenating and the view from the top is definitely something worth it. Furthermore, as I have Acrophobia, the thrill of being on the highest point of the school only suspended by a rope in the icy wind watching the sunrise makes it worth everything.
I was able to develop new skills and I was able to explore the sport of climbing which is not so popular. This allowed me to develop knowledge and skills in this field. The main challenge which was faced by me was to keep track of the sessions because there was no one to remind me which helped me develop my time management skills and apart from that it was a really great experience. Though the sport itself is a solo sport there is a need for team work because people communicate to us about how we can face challenges which we usually face while climbing but I was able to overcome all those challenges and successfully climb to the top of the harder every time. This also made me more self aware about my own physical strengths and abilities.
LO1 – [Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth]
Due to my fear and out of shape body, it helped me identify my own weakness in my strength and flexibility. By forcing myself out of my own comfort zone and challenging the issues head on, I was able to progress and improve my physique. I was even able to see the effects of this when I was able to scale the walls much more easily as time went on and move to advanced courses with much greater ease then before.
LO2 – [Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills]
When climbing the walls, courage wsa the main factor holding me back was extremely dangerous as it was making me sweat and constantly loose grip on the holds. Howver, I persisted with a running nose and scaled the wall allowing me to develop dexterity and show something for myself.
LO4 – [Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience]
We were required to come to the site way early in the morning when it was freezing cold which even made many participants drop the experience altogether. However, I stuck around and attended all the sessions even if they weren’t required to complete the experience which showed perseverance and commitment to the CAS experience as it was something that I enjoyed doing.
