Bal mela is an event organized by the student volunteers in school, where underprivileged students from government school are invited to have fun and joyful time, by taking part in different activities. Being a part of the event and watching the children having fun was truly heartening.
My experience in bal mela was wonderful, seeing the children having fun, dancing and laughing was the best thing. I really enjoyed talking to them about their likes and making bracelets for them. It was very heartening.
LO1 (Identify your own strenghts and develop areas for growth)
One of my strength was I knew how to make bracelet as I have made bracelet in larger amount at once, one tricky part was about tying knot in the bracelet if not tied properly the bracelet might open so we as a group decided that i would tie knot to the bracelet and other would bead the bracelet in order to make the work easier and quicker.
LO5 (Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively)
The benefits of working collaboratively in a group was much easier as I volunteered in bracelet making and it was very time consuming to make one. The students who are visiting the event have a limited time and when they come for bracelet making they would miss other activities to avoid that we all worked together and made bracelets as fast as possible.
LO6 (Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance)
The issue which was globally significant was, quality education as, education is important for children but holistic development is also important, these activities help the children’s wellbeing and and also helps the children to become more active. Government schools should start providing these opportunities to the children.
LO7 (Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions)
The ethics of fairness, Not every student is privileged to get proper education which is unfair for the children, these events are an opportunity for them to explore their likes and develop new skills, learning arts and craft, games, sports. It is very important for children to have holistic development.
In conclusion, The event was amazing. The learner profile that I developed was a communicator. Even though we were busy making bracelets, we made sure to engage with the children make them feel welcome and make sure they enjoyed the event.
