Alumni Reunion is a CAS experience, where we used our creativity skills to plan this event. Every year, alumni reunion takes place and is organized by our school but this time, they gave us the opportunity to plan the event as a CAS experience. Planning this event was a bit difficult for me as this year, the alumni of the 2016 batch were all invited to this event. As we don’t know all of them properly, we were not able to decide which type of theme and games we should keep for this year. As we were having shortage of members, the workload was increased for all of us. We all need to decide everything from the food menu till the games and invites. My goal was to collaborate with my teammates and work upon this event and at the end of the event, getting event managing experience.

LO 5 : “demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively”

As we were only a few people while planning this event, we tried to collaborate with each other and achieved each other’s goal. First few days of working, we were too stressed as we needed to plan an invite for them in two days and the final theme also. This caused a lot of chaos for a while but, as we all were working in a team, we were able to overcome every situation.

LO 3 : “Initiate and plan a CAS experience”

We were the first group of students who got the opportunity to plan this event and as we were only given the brief information, the other things such as sheet, resource management and everything, needed to be done by us. Our team leader and we, as teammates helped each other and plan this CAS experience. We all set our own goals whereas we also created a plan of action to achieve those goals.

LO 6 : “Engagement with issues of global significance”

Events causes so much of waste as the decoration used in the events are never used again and even though we have resources, which we can use and create many new things for decoration but we end up buying new things left the old ones behind whereas we as team decided to use resources in a useful way and try to make decorations which can be used again in other events also. We try to use the resources like paper and decorations with print outs which were then used in other events also such as sports day. The reuse of decoration reduces the waste.

In the end of this experience, I was able to achieve my goal, to develop leadership skills with the use of learner profile attribute, caring and communicator as we, as a team cared about the environment and use the resources properly without any waste and we also considered each others ideas for decorations and themes and respected their ideas while attending the meetings and while working. This creativity benefited me as it helped me to develop new skills, such as leadership skills and also helped to get a proper event management experience. The event was a success and the alumni liked the theme but they were so eager to place different sports that they were not interested in the games we planned for them which can be taken as improvement or feedback that next year we stop considering it. If I had this experience again, I would like to change the theme or remove the games and allow them to place basketball and frisbee matches. The skills I develop can be applied in the future, where I will be working or in my own business.
