Cross country running is a sport in which individuals run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain such as dirt or grass. I demonstrated Activity out of the three strands of CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service).
Learning Outcome 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:
I am fond of sports. My favourite sport is football. Football is a sport where stamina and endurance to survive a 90 minute match plays a key role. Without them the best talent can also fail to win a match. This experience is aligned with the sustainable goal of “Good health and well-being” as Cross country run has helped me develop my stamina and endurance which further helps me in maintaining good health and improving my performance while playing football.
Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:
This was my first time participating in a marathon. We were supposed to run 3 marathons which were 3 km, 5 km and 5 km in distance respectively. Continuously running for such vast distances under the scorching sun was very challenging for me but still I managed to secure 4th place in the inter-house, 5 km marathon.
Learning Outcome 4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:
On the day of the 3rd marathon which was of 5 km, I was sick but I still decided to run in the marathon as it was necessary in order to complete this experience. During the marathon, several stalls were installed where energy drinks were available for those who were participating in the marathon. The energy drinks kept me hydrated but on the other hand when I was only 400 meters away from the finish line, I started feeling nauseous and eventually vomited when I was 200 meters away from the finish line. Despite feeling such difficulties, I managed to finish the marathon.
