Duration : 26 Feb to 27 Feb 2024
VA and Film Exhibition is a creativity where I learned so many unique things about Film and visual arts. This was my first time visiting a Film exhibition and it was marvelous. Not only, I visit but I also helped them to prepare for their visual arts and Film exhibition. This experience was more learning than other experiences but it was also challenging. As, I am also a visual arts student, this CAS experience was very helpful for me as next year, I would be having a exhibition like this and by seeing them before the event and on the day, I can learn many things such as time management, how can I set up my artworks, types of mediums I can choose, ideas I can take and think about, and etc. We were given 2 days to help them. 26 Feb, where we had a full day pull out where we can help them to settle their things and also give them advice as an audience. On 27 Feb, we helped them to set up early. Setting their artworks was a little bit challenging, as the artworks were too heavy and big and the places were left to be decided. So, I create a goal, to help them settle their artworks before the event day and try to help them complete their work before the deadline. Each of the grade 11 visual arts students were assigned one student to each of them to help them. As a volunteer, I helped my partner to set up his things whereas I also helped other people near me.
LO 1 : “Identify own strengths and develop areas for growthâ€
After we helped them on the day before the event, at the end of the day I was able to find my weakness and strengths. Not weaknesses for achieving my goal but, as a visual arts student. It helped me find out that we can’t achieve without practice as practice makes perfect. This was the first learning I achieved. Whereas, I was able to know which mediums I can work upon and which mediums I am good at and I am interested in. Which I considered as a strength. Related to this CAS experience, I found out that I was not able to focus on helping one person which is a strength but, it also can create chaos for me as I might get confused with their work and might end up making a mistake. So, from the next day I tried to help one person and helped that person to settle their work until that person set up for the exhibition was finished.
LO 5 : “Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaborativelyâ€
As, we were all given each student as a partner to help them, which we were not able to follow as there was no time left so, all of them helped each of them. For me, working in groups with teamwork or collaboration is easier than working alone as we get different ideas and opinions which can help to make the work better. While setting up the artworks, we, all grade 11 student volunteers, discussed how this artwork can be kept and where and how, to create a great impact on the audience. This teamwork made the work more easier as well helped to develop new skills from each other such as observation skills. It is important to work in a team as it gives more opinion or feedback on that specific thing which helps to make the work more appealing or good enough.
LO 4 : “Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiencesâ€
As we all were given 1 day and an early start to prepare and set up their artworks for the event, it made this creativity difficult. We all were tired as we all had deadlines on those days and this event created it more difficult and challenging. But, I made a commitment that I can do it, I can achieve this experience and can still complete my work at home. It was not easy for me to commit things but, I tried to overcome it. As per my opinion, commitment and perseverance are important CAS experiences because if the person is not able to overcome the difficulties or challenges then he or she wouldn’t be able to achieve their CAS experience. It will also create their CAS experience more easily to achieve. It can also motivate them to work on their experience.
In the end, This experience helped me learn so many things. The learner profile attribute, caring helped me to learn things because I helped them to settle up their work whereas I considered the environmental problems during decoration time where we used the reused decoration materials while setting up their artworks also. This experience is linked with my subject, visual arts because this gives me a warning before the end of what things I shouldn’t do and which I should do on the event day and before that. I was able to achieve my goal and the event was a success. If I get a chance to perform this experience again, I would try to change my goal and help them in advance.
