For this year’s Global Odyssey event at school, our team decided to organize a fun football game stall to involve the whole community. As someone who enjoys football, I eagerly volunteered to help plan and run the activity over the three day event. This experience allowed me to meet several important CAS learning outcomes.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth Collaboration is necessary, enhancing task efficiency by viewing team strengths and responsibilities. Our good teamwork not only completed tasks but also helped problem-solving with different perspectives. Trust and compromise were important in navigating challenges, fostering a supportive environment where ideas flourished. Embracing differing viewpoints led to better decisions aligned with collective goals. This experience highlighted the immense value of collaboration in promoting innovation, efficiency, and mutual respect within teams.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills Organizing a big event was hard. I had to do things like managing money, telling people about it, and solving problems as they happened. This helped me learn how to share tasks well, talk confidently in front of people, and think fast to keep things going smoothly. Dealing with these challenges made me better at handling different jobs at the same time, and now I feel ready for similar tasks in the future.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience In our team, we all worked together to come up with our stall idea, write down what we wanted to do, and make a plan for how to do it step by step. We split up the jobs, like who would do what, and made schedules for when everything needed to happen. Doing this taught me how thinking ahead and working together are really important for making our stall work well. It showed me that being organized and coordinating with others is key to having a successful experience.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience I learned that sticking with challenges and staying positive helped me grow. Even when things got tough, I kept going and stayed hopeful. Working together to solve problems made our stall run smoothly every day. It felt really good to overcome obstacles and achieve our goals. This experience showed me that having a mindset of always trying and not giving up, even when things are hard, helps us succeed. It was rewarding to see how teamwork and a positive attitude can make a big difference in reaching our objectives.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively Collaboration was super important during our project. We worked together by using our strengths and dividing up tasks, which made things go faster. When we faced tough situations, being a strong team helped us a lot. I learned how valuable it is to trust what others think and to find solutions together by giving a little and taking a little. This taught me that when we work as a team, we can do amazing things. It was cool to see how listening to others and working together can make tough stuff easier and help us achieve our goals faster.
Overall, participating in planning and running the football stall provided invaluable lessons that will aid in my future group projects or career. I am grateful for this enriching CAS experience to strengthen my organizational, interpersonal and reflective learning skills.
