This year I got a chance to volunteer in Creative Mela, an event held by Fountainhead School to celebrate and promote creativity in different forms. Creative Mela gave me an opportunity to engage in using my creative side and develop some new skills. I assisted in the brick painting workshop, wherein I got a chance to learn and do some painting myself and teach those skills to other MYP students.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Participating in the brick painting workshop at Creative Mela presented me with a unique set of challenges that ultimately led to significant personal growth. As a volunteer, I not only had to refine my own painting skills but also learn how to effectively guide and teach others in the workshop. Initially, I faced the challenge of adapting my painting techniques to suit various skill levels among the participants. This required patience, adaptability, and clear communication to ensure that everyone felt included and empowered to express their creativity.
Moreover, the experience of teaching younger MYP students introduced me to the complexities of instructing and motivating others in a creative setting. I learned to tailor my guidance to different learning styles and skill levels, which greatly enhanced my ability to communicate ideas effectively and provide constructive feedback. Through this process, I not only refined my painting skills but also developed invaluable teaching and mentoring abilities that will serve me well in future endeavours.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Collaboration was at the heart of Creative Mela, and I relished the opportunity to work alongside fellow volunteers and participants to make the event a resounding success. As a member of the workshop team, I collaborated closely with other volunteers to plan and execute the brick painting activity. We brainstormed creative ideas for designs, coordinated the setup of materials, and ensured a smooth flow of participants throughout the day. One of the most rewarding aspects of this collaborative effort was witnessing the positive impact of teamwork on the overall experience of the attendees. By pooling our talents and resources, we created an inclusive and engaging environment that encouraged everyone to explore their creativity. I also had the pleasure of collaborating with the students I was mentoring, exchanging ideas, and learning from each other’s unique perspectives.
