CAS: Creativity

FS got talent is an event that helps the FS students to show their skills and expertise in various sectors like – dance, drama, singing, playing instrumental music, poetry, fashion and many others. This is a student led event for students. This event was open for every student between the grades 7-12 to present their talent. This was held in our school itself and assessed by our arts teachers.

In this event there were a total of 6 members, 4 directors of the event and 2 people under them (I was one of them). The event needed to be managed all by us from invitations to participant entries, from guest list to making sure of the decorations, from technical handlings to backstage handling. There were different steps to it. 

First thing first, the forms were rolled out via mail which was created by the directors of the event. Further, we made sure that each and every student knew about this event so we went to each section of the grade 7-12 (approx 45 classes) to make an announcement of the event. Since it was the second time that this event was being held. Simultaneously, the directors of the event were making sure of the participant list and requirements needed for the performances, as in tracks, the flow of the event etc. On the other hand, me and the other person made sure of the script needed for on-day. Moreover, few days before the event we all together made the guest list and passes (writing names of the students and parents on each pass) . We also prepared the certificates for the participants as a gesture of participating (writing the names on them). After making the event’s flow, participant and guest list, flow of the event, passes for the event and lastly certificates we all decided to make decor for FS got talent that will be sticked on the stage and in the venue where the event was supposed to happen. 

For decor first, we got all the resources such as, newspaper, chart paper, A4 size sheets, painting colors, ribbons, scale, scissors and a lot of things. During this process we made sure that instead of using new sheets and papers we’ll use recycled paper and sheets for decor keeping sustainability in mind. Moving forward, we decided to go ahead with the ‘theater’ theme, in that we made clapboards, music notes, cameras etc. We also made customized ‘FS GOT TALENT’ fonts. The learning outcomes were: 

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:

In this process I learned a lot of things about me and got to know my strengths. Number one: I found out that I am very good at managing the before-event-stuff , for example, making the decorations and prepping for the event. Not only this but I got to know that if I ever wanted to organize an event I’ll be excellent at it because I have the internet in such things. Second, on the day of the event all 6 of us had some or the other role. For instance one of us was handling the technical part, the other was handling the presentation. Likewise, I had the role of doing both anchoring and handling the backstage. When I went for anchoring for the first time I was very nervous but as we moved ahead in the event I became more and more confident with each delivery of the line. And it turned out that after the event everyone including the judges complimented me for my anchoring and I told me that I really lit up the whole show. Coming onto the weaknesses, in this process I was not sure that I came across any weaknesses because the whole process was something I really enjoyed and there were tasks that I was good at already. I think that after getting to know that I was a great anchor I then got to know that I have great communication skills which was something new and I had discovered that about me. 

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience 

I definitely initiated a CAS project knowing the fact that only 6 people managed the whole event from A to Z having a crowd of like 60+ people. However, I would say that this was more of planning the CAS experience as FS got talent used to happen in the school from quite a long. The most difficult thing of the project was to get things together, meaning that we worked separately on things but then coordinating with each other and then planning the event as a whole was very challenging. Also there were clashes of ideas but still we made sure that we came to a common ground. Additionally, one of the challenges was to make sure that we are keeping sustainability in mind while making the decor and to a great extent we achieved it because we used old chart papers, old newspapers and also used old decor (we reused things). After planning the event I kind of feel that planning an event in the future would be easier because I know what all could be the perks and drawbacks while planning or drafting an event.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

For this particular event working collaboratively was not much difficult because there was a small team, most of them were people I knew. This task needed a lot of teamwork and leadership skills; teamwork as working collaboratively is necessary as individually everyone had their own strengths and skills in planning that event which as a whole could help me to learn something from each other and be able to help someone in something that I have my forte in. Talking about leadership, everyone was assigned each task (as mentioned above) which they had to complete as per their expertise, thus, I made sure that every task that was under my responsibility I complete it before the deadline and with good quality work.

The learner profile used as balanced as I managed as there were different tasks that were being done simultaneously due to which each of the tasks needed equal attention. Not only this but also balancing deadlines and the completion of tasks. The takeaway of the event is interacting with diverse team members and how to deal with certain people. Additionally, I to a certain extend improved my organization skills; organization was one of the key aspects of planning the event.
