Although I’ve always had a love for animals, I’ve never had the chance to take care of them directly. This experience changed that by giving me hands-on responsibilities like feeding animals, cleaning their living spaces, and meeting their day-to-day needs. I had the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of animals, learn about their backgrounds, and contribute to their care in meaningful ways. Our tasks ranged from chopping vegetables to feed all the animals, to cleaning dog cages and bowls, maintaining bird enclosures, and even feeding exotic animals like iguanas, owls, snakes, turtles, and more. Each activity deepened my connection with these animals and gave me insights into the effort and dedication involved in their care.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance AND LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

During this experience, we focused on the global issue of “Life on Land,” specifically by helping rescue and rehabilitate animals. Many of these animals had difficult pasts, with their stories all tracing back to human actions, whether through neglect, habitat destruction, or mistreatment. This made me reflect deeply on how our choices, even with good intentions, can have unintended negative impacts on the environment and animals. It highlighted the importance of reconsidering the ethics behind our actions and how we can make more mindful decisions that contribute to the well-being of life on land. This experience pushed me to think critically about the responsibility we all share in protecting and caring for the world around us.
