This CAS experience describes the preparation and implementation of a Night Out for around 150 students. Our objective was to encourage student connection, provide engaging activities outside of the classroom, and spark friendly rivalry. To manage a throng this large, we methodically split jobs and duties. In my capacity as night tournament organizer, I was responsible for overseeing the teams and sports.

Securing school consent and space: We met with the school administration to present our idea, address security issues, and obtain permission to utilize the school’s designated locations for the event, such as gymnasiums or outside fields for the tournament.
Activity and entertainment planning: We investigated and arranged exciting activities. We also recruited student volunteers to help with the festivities and referee the competition, if feasible.
Organizing the night tournament: We determined the regulations and structure for the basketball, football, and badminton competitions, taking into account team size, time limitations, and suitable age categories. We also secured judges (potentially experienced student volunteers).

LO3: Initiating and Planning a CAS Experience

This endeavor requires initiative and ownership from the beginning. Recognizing the need for a community-building event with friendly competition, we investigated comparable events and devised a strategy appropriate to our school’s setting and resources. This experience helped us strengthen our planning and organisational abilities, as well as our capacity to start and lead change.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.

The success of this event was greatly dependent on teamwork. We worked together to:

Create a coherent plan: We effectively communicated ideas, divided duties based on strengths, and ensured that all components of the event (activities, tournament) were properly organized.
Delegate and manage tasks: We divided responsibilities based on individual abilities and interests, and we checked in with one another to assure progress.
Resolve problems collaboratively: When we encountered difficulties, we explored solutions as a group and implemented the best course of action.
This event improved our capacity to operate successfully as a team, recognize varied contributions, and reach a shared objective.

In conclusion, organizing a school night competition was a wonderful CAS experience. This allowed us to improve our organizational and communication abilities while also fostering community, school pride, and friendly rivalry. We learnt vital event management skills, but we also developed a better knowledge of the value of cooperation, perseverance, and initiative.
