2 day trek program to Igatpuri, Maharashtra

The two-day trek program to Igatpuri was an unforgettable CAS experience filled with enjoyable activities that required both risk-taking and physical stamina. Each step posed a challenge, making the journey not only about overcoming physical obstacles but also about experiencing the beauty around us; the views of the lush landscape and distant mountains were exhilarating. Additionally, we participated in cleaning the dam, which made me acutely aware of how often we litter and spoil beautiful places. Collecting the trash around the dam was a rewarding and meaningful activity, allowing me to appreciate the scenery even more.

LO-1  Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth :

During the two-day program, we went trekking twice. I realized that trekking was more difficult than I had expected, especially as I encountered slippery edges while climbing. However, it felt like a test of my physical strength; the rain made the ascent tougher, but the unique experience added to the enjoyment. I also uncovered several of my weaknesses, such as my difficulty jumping to steeper areas and managing slippery surfaces. Many of my peers helped each other navigate challenging sections. Overall, it was a blend of challenges and fun.

LO- 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:

During our trip, we visited a nearby local school to spend two to three hours playing with the children and having fun. The school was located in a beautiful and scenic area, making our time there refreshing and enjoyable. However, we faced communication challenges since the kids primarily spoke Marathi, which made it hard to interact with them. Luckily, we had language interpreters to help translate from Hindi to Marathi. We played games like dog and the bone, circle games, and kabaddi. At the end, we joined in their traditional dance, which was performed beautifully. Despite the challenges, we felt a sense of belonging and warmth, making the difficulties seem minor.

LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance:

Interacting with the local schoolchildren was a key highlight of the trip. By playing games and having conversations, we built meaningful connections with the students and learned about their daily lives and experiences. These interactions heightened my awareness of the challenges faced by rural communities and underscored the significance of education and empowerment in tackling global issues like poverty and inequality. It was a humbling experience that expanded my perspective and motivated me to pursue positive change.

In conclusion, my trekking experience in Igatpuri deepened my appreciation for nature, promoted healthy living, and highlighted the importance of education while addressing the pressing issue of climate change. I overcame challenges, developed new skills, and broadened my understanding of global issues through persistence, resilience, and a commitment to making a positive impact. This experience inspires me to continue advocating for sustainable practices, education, and a stronger connection with nature in the future, knowing that each individual’s actions can significantly influence our communities and beyond.
