For my CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) project, I embarked on an exciting and meaningful journey by organizing an event called Anad Utsav. This initiative was dedicated to appreciating the hardworking didis and bhaiyas (support staff) who keep our school running smoothly. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how this experience not only helped me develop new skills but also allowed me to challenge myself, plan an impactful event, and work collaboratively with my peers and teachers.

LO2 – Demonstrate that Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills

The first challenge I faced was recognizing how much effort it would take to organize an event that was not just meaningful but also logistically sound. At first, I underestimated the time and coordination required to pull everything together, from planning the ceremony to managing the cultural performances and coordinating with the support staff. I had to develop skills in event management, organization, and problem-solving.

One of the significant challenges was working within a tight schedule. With so many students and teachers involved, ensuring everyone was on the same page while balancing academic commitments was a constant struggle. However, through effective time management and prioritizing tasks, I was able to stay on top of my responsibilities. I also developed skills in public speaking and communication, particularly when delivering speeches or addressing the students to explain the purpose of the event.

This experience has made me more confident in tackling big tasks, and I’ve learned that challenges are often an opportunity to learn and grow. I now feel more capable of taking on leadership roles in the future.

LO3 – Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience

The Anad Utsav project was entirely my own initiative, and the planning process began with defining the core purpose: to express gratitude towards the didis and bhaiyas who are often overlooked. I set out to create an event that would not only recognize their hard work but also allow the students and teachers to come together to celebrate these unsung heroes of our school community.

I started by researching how best to show appreciation—whether through speeches, gifts, or performances—and then decided on a blend of all three to make the event feel warm and personal. I also organized a team of volunteers from the student body to help with decorations, organizing the thank-you notes, and performing during the event.

The entire process of initiating and planning this experience required critical thinking, organization, and coordination. I had to make decisions about budget, manage resources, and allocate responsibilities among the team, ensuring the event was well-planned and meaningful for everyone involved.

LO4 – Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience

Despite the challenges, I remained committed to making Anad Utsav a success. I faced a few setbacks along the way—one of the biggest being the last-minute changes in the performance lineup due to scheduling conflicts. However, instead of getting discouraged, I stayed determined to find alternative solutions. I communicated with the performers, re-adjusted the event timeline, and ensured that everything ran smoothly on the day of the event.

Throughout the process, my commitment was tested on multiple occasions, whether through late-night preparations or early morning rehearsals with the volunteers. But, knowing that the event would have such a positive impact on our support staff kept me going. The excitement and gratitude I saw from the didis and bhaiyas during the event made all the effort worthwhile. Their smiles and appreciation were the ultimate reward, reinforcing my commitment to seeing this project through to the end.

LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

One of the most rewarding aspects of Anad Utsav was the collaborative effort involved in making it happen. I had the opportunity to work with a group of students, teachers, and the support staff in organizing the event. Every stage, from brainstorming ideas to executing them, required teamwork.

Working with the students in the planning stages was an eye-opening experience. I had to delegate tasks effectively, balancing everyone’s strengths, and ensuring that each person felt involved in the project. This required strong communication and leadership skills. I learned how to motivate people, listen to their ideas, and adapt plans based on their input.

Collaborating with the teachers was also valuable. They offered insights into how to make the event more impactful, and they were instrumental in helping me secure resources and approval for the event. Their support was crucial, and I was able to build a strong relationship with them by keeping them updated and seeking their guidance throughout the process.

The day of the event itself highlighted the benefits of collaboration. The entire team, from the performers to the volunteers, came together seamlessly to ensure the event was successful. The didis and bhaiyas were touched by the thoughtfulness of the event, and it was heartwarming to see our collective effort come to fruition.

Reflection
Anand Utsav was more than just an event—it was a celebration of community and a reminder of the importance of showing gratitude. This CAS experience allowed me to connect with people I may not have interacted with regularly and understand the value of their contributions to the school. It also reinforced the idea that small gestures of recognition can create a sense of belonging and motivate people to continue working hard.

Through this project, I’ve not only developed practical skills like event planning, communication, and collaboration but also deepened my understanding of how meaningful service can impact both individuals and communities. I’ve learned that leading an initiative is not just about being in charge; it’s about listening, planning thoughtfully, and working together toward a common goal.

As I reflect on the success of Anad Utsav, I feel proud of what we accomplished and excited about the future opportunities I’ll have to lead and serve in similar ways. This experience has not only allowed me to develop as a leader but also as a more empathetic and reflective individual, and I look forward to continuing this journey of growth and service.
