I went for a cleanup drive for 4 days during the time span of 16th Jan 2024 to 8th March 2024. In which I cleaned up a large portion of a weed infested lake there with my friends where I found it fun and got a littel bit dirty but still it was interesting with my friends. The challenges we faced were that it was too warm and people weren’t ready to go in the lake and clean out the lake and so the volunteers had to go in the water and clean the lake.

One of the main challenges I faced was to wake up early each morning and keep track of time, another challenge faced by me was that I had to miss 3 slots of my class which led to learning loss. Personally It was a great experience for me because I was able to contribute something to the community which has given a lot of resources to me. Furthermore, The area was really dirty and I had to change my clothes evertime which was a bit of a challenge to me because it consumed a lot of time to clean up which led to further learning loss. I was able to overcome these challenges smartly by keeping track of the learning loss with the help of my friends and my peers and I had to put extra time in studyin in my home in order to cover up the loss. It was a really great experience for me as I was able to come out of my comfort zone which really made me into a better person.

LO6. “Engagement with issues of global significance” Participating in the cleanup drive at the weed-infested lake was more than just getting dirty; it was about engaging with a global issue. Overcoming challenges like persuading volunteers to enter the water, waking up early, and managing missed classes highlighted personal growth. Despite the time-consuming task of changing clothes after each session, the experience was rewarding. Tracking my learning loss with friends and peers helped me prioritize studies, fostering a sense of responsibility towards both community and environment. It was a transformative journey, pushing me out of my comfort zone and shaping me into a more conscientious individual.

This CAS experience helps me develop the skill of recognizing and considering the ethics of choices and actions (L7). By participating in the lake cleanup, I am making an ethical choice to support environmental sustainability and community welfare. It also pushes me to balance service with academics, encouraging reflection on how my actions impact both the environment and my personal responsibilities. This fosters a greater awareness of the ethical dimensions of my decisions and their broader effects.

This CAS experience also helps me demonstrate perseverance and commitment (L4) by consistently engaging in the lake cleanup over multiple days, despite challenges such as warm weather, early mornings, and missed class time. I remained committed to completing the project and overcoming obstacles, such as time management and learning loss, by working extra hours at home. My dedication to this service reflects a sustained effort to contribute meaningfully to the community while balancing personal responsibilities.
