Our school organizes a community service program where underprivileged children are given an opportunity to learn and develop new skills with the help of FS students. Students from the government schools come to our school and spend their weekends in a productive manner by learning something new. I had taken part in the category of football during the community service where we taught the children’s some basic football skills such as passing , dribbling and shooting.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth .
Throughout this experience, I had to reflect on my own abilities and identify both my strengths and areas for improvement. One major area of growth for me was learning how to manage a large group of children. Initially, I found it challenging to handle a big crowd, especially when trying to keep the children focused and organized. However, over time, I realized that this was an area where I could improve. I learned strategies for maintaining order, such as creating structured activities and delegating tasks to other volunteers. On the other hand, one of my strengths that emerged during this experience was my ability to plan and organize activities efficiently. Dividing the children into smaller groups and assigning specific drills to each group was something I found I could do well. This skill allowed the football sessions to run smoothly and ensured that the children remained engaged in the learning process.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
To execute a proper day we need to plan everything properly such as what skill should be taught and what new activities we can make them do which are interesting and they enjoy it. It was important to plan the experience properly so that in the span of 3 weeks we are able to teach them a few basics about football. In our group I was appointed to make different groups with different student volunteers who will be handling groups to divide the crowd and make the service effective with equal division of students.
LO4 – Show Perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Successfully executing the football training sessions required consistent effort and dedication. It wasn’t always easy to manage a large group of energetic children, but I remained committed to the task. Despite some challenges, such as occasional distractions or lack of focus from the children, I stayed patient and focused on helping them improve their football skills. My perseverance was key to the success of the program. There were moments when it would have been easy to feel discouraged, especially when things didn’t go as planned, but I understood that staying committed to the process was important. By showing up consistently and giving my best effort, I was able to make a positive impact on the children’s learning experience.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
In a program like this, where we were catering to a large number of children, teamwork was essential. We had to work collaboratively to ensure that all aspects of the program were handled efficiently. I learned that dividing roles and responsibilities among the volunteers was crucial to the smooth running of the sessions. Each volunteer was assigned specific tasks, such as leading drills, managing the children’s behavior, or organizing equipment, which allowed us to work more effectively as a team. Communication was another important skill I developed during this experience. I had to constantly coordinate with the other volunteers to make sure everyone was on the same page and that the children were receiving equal attention. By working together and supporting each other, we were able to create an environment where the children could learn and enjoy themselves.
Through this experience of community service I got to improve various skills such as communicating, planning, working collaboratively and many more. I was also able to develop some few learner profile attributes such as communicator as throughout the sessions I had to use my communication skills as I had to work in groups and work collaboratively for performing various activities such as planning the activities and executing those works.
