I dedicated three weekends to teaching frisbee to children from public schools as part of a community service initiative. This experience not only allowed me to share my passion for sports but also helped me connect with the kids in a meaningful way. It was a chance to make a positive impact on their physical and social development, while also challenging myself to improve my leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Through this experience, I learned valuable lessons about patience, responsibility, and the importance of fostering a fun and inclusive environment.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Throughout this experience, I recognized that my strength lies in my ability to engage with the children and teach them in a way that was fun and easy to understand. However, I also identified areas for growth, such as improving my ability to manage a group and ensure that every child stayed focused and involved. By reflecting on these strengths and weaknesses, I was able to adjust my approach and become a more effective coach.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Teaching frisbee to young children was challenging because it required patience and adaptability. Many of the kids were unfamiliar with the sport, and I had to develop creative ways to explain the rules and techniques. Through this, I developed new skills in teaching and communication, learning how to break down complex movements into simpler steps and how to keep the children motivated and engaged.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Before the sessions, I carefully planned how to structure the frisbee lessons, from teaching the basics of throwing and catching to organizing small matches for the kids. I initiated the experience by setting clear objectives for each session, ensuring that the children not only learned the sport but also enjoyed the process. This planning allowed the sessions to run smoothly and made sure that the children progressed in their learning each week.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
By teaching frisbee to children from public schools, I engaged with the issue of equal access to extracurricular activities and sports. Many of these children may not have had the opportunity to participate in such activities outside of school, and this experience helped promote physical health, teamwork, and inclusivity. It was a way of giving back to the community and ensuring that all children, regardless of their background, had the chance to enjoy and benefit from sports.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Throughout this experience, I had to consider the ethical implications of my actions, such as ensuring that every child felt included and supported. I made it a point to give each child equal attention and encouragement, recognizing that some children may struggle more than others. I also emphasized the importance of fair play and respect during the matches, reinforcing positive values that extend beyond the sport itself.
