Alumni reunion, held on 23rd december was a CAS experience, where we used our creativity and collaboration skills in order to create a memorable experience for our school alumni. Even after the tight time frame posed to us by our supervisors, we were able to create a fun experience for the alumnis.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The preparation during the reunion was difficult because most of the activities were completed in a short time. To have many tasks and such rigid deadlines it was possible to get stressed up easily. But I was not willing to leave the project as much as I wanted to stay committed to it. As for decorations, all of them were handmade which means a lot of work, patience and a keen sense of detail was required. Sometimes the materials ran out, or the ideas we came up with in designs did not work in the way that was planned and expected, but we did not stop. I did learn that when filled with pressure, one must remain focused at a task at hand and not quit.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Cooperation was required in the course of event planning and the entire process. There were seven other people who I was directly collaborating with and together all of our skills were harnessed to help make the reunion a success. From generating activity ideas or dividing tasks for making the decorations, we all had to depend on each other’s input to progress. The interpersonal skills were improved. What was good in cooperation was made evident when we looked at how each of us jointly contributed to possible activities that none of us could have done single-handedly like attaching the hangings to the trees.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
In organizing the event, we had to take into account that no resources were wasted and also that we opted for sustainable materials. The choice reflected our commitment to reducing waste and being environmentally responsible. We planned activities that did not harm the environment like playing different games, basketball, football, and created a photobooth with resources that were already available to us. These ethical considerations reinforced the importance of making choices that align with our values and being conscious of the impact our actions have on others and the environment.
This alumni reunion event was a rewarding experience that not only tested my time management and creative abilities but also helped me grow in perseverance, teamwork, and ethical decision-making.
