CAS Blog: Balmela – A Journey of Learning and Growth

Participating in Balmela was an eye-opening and fulfilling experience that challenged me in ways I hadn’t expected. This event was not just about organizing fun activities for children; it was about making a meaningful impact, stepping out of my comfort zone, and working collaboratively to bring joy and education to young minds. From managing large crowds to ensuring that every child was engaged, Balmela taught me valuable lessons in perseverance, teamwork, and personal growth.

L2: Demonstrating Challenges Undertaken and Developing New Skills

One of the biggest challenges I faced at Balmela was managing and engaging a large group of children with different interests and energy levels. At first, it was overwhelming to ensure that every child was included and enjoying the activities. Some were excited and active, while others were shy and hesitant to participate. Finding ways to balance these differences and keep everyone involved was a real challenge.

To overcome this, I learned how to quickly adapt and modify activities based on the children’s reactions. I developed better communication skills, using a friendly and encouraging approach to make the children feel comfortable. Additionally, I improved my leadership abilities by taking charge when necessary, ensuring that activities flowed smoothly and everyone was having a good time.

Another challenge was handling unexpected situations, such as children getting restless or needing extra assistance. This required quick thinking and problem-solving skills, which I gradually developed as the event progressed. By the end of the day, I felt much more confident in my ability to handle unpredictable scenarios effectively.

My patience and ability to create a positive atmosphere also stood out as strengths that helped me connect with the kids.

Balancing multiple activities and ensuring that each child got equal attention was difficult. I sometimes found myself focusing too much on one task while neglecting others. Moving forward, I plan to improve my ability to delegate tasks and manage time more effectively in similar events.

Another area for growth was my ability to handle high-pressure situations. With so many things happening at once, I sometimes felt overwhelmed. Learning to stay calm and organized under pressure is something I aim to work on in the future.

Balmela required dedication and long hours of effort. From the preparation phase to the actual event, there were moments when things didn’t go as planned. One moment that tested my perseverance was when a group of children became uninterested in an activity I was leading. Instead of giving up, I quickly modified the activity and introduced a more interactive element, which re-engaged them. This taught me that persistence and adaptability go hand in hand—when something doesn’t work, it’s important to try a different approach rather than giving up.

Seeing the joy on the children’s faces by the end of the event made all the hard work worthwhile. It reinforced the importance of staying committed even when things get tough, as the impact we create is often greater than we realize.
