Music has been a passion of mine since I started playing the guitar in 7th grade, and performing in bands has been a key part of my journey. I’ve been part of multiple bands, playing in various performances both within and outside of school. Over the last year, I performed in three school events and two external ones, each one an opportunity to showcase my skills and collaborate with talented musicians. These performances have allowed me to express myself creatively, build confidence on stage, and connect with diverse audiences, all while growing as a musician.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Throughout my band performances, I’ve recognized my strength in rhythm guitar, especially when playing live. However, I’ve also realized that I need to work on my improvisation skills, particularly during solo sections. Identifying this area for growth has motivated me to focus on more advanced techniques, helping me become a more versatile guitarist.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Playing in a band presented several challenges, including learning complex songs and syncing with other musicians during performances. These challenges helped me develop new skills, such as adjusting to different tempos and styles, and improving my ability to harmonize with other instruments. Each challenge pushed me to practice harder and develop a deeper understanding of music.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

As part of the band, I took the lead in organizing rehearsals and helping plan our setlists for performances. This experience taught me how to manage time effectively and coordinate schedules with my bandmates. It also involved ensuring that we were fully prepared for each event, from sound checks to stage presence, contributing to the success of our performances.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Mastering the guitar parts for each performance required consistent effort and commitment. I dedicated countless hours to practicing, refining my technique, and ensuring that I was well-prepared for each gig. My perseverance paid off, as each performance was a testament to the hard work and dedication my bandmates and I put in.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Being part of a band requires strong teamwork and communication. During rehearsals and performances, we relied on each other’s strengths to create a cohesive sound. By working closely with my bandmates, I learned how to blend my playing with theirs and how to give and receive constructive feedback, leading to a more successful performance.
