In this trip I went to Igatpuri (Maharashtra) in the month of September. The main goal of the trip was to do trekking around the hills of the place, at the same time it was an opportunity to spend some time with my school friends and have some fun. People played cards, woke up all night just shouting and playing which was really enjoyable. In the trip we had an Agenda to cover which included basket weaving, Dam cleaning, Trekking, Teaching kids in a local government school and more.
Due to the bad weather we weren’t able to do a lot of activities but still I did a 2 hour long trekking uphill during this time and I spent a lot of time with my friends during night. At the same time we went to a local dam of the place and we cleaned it, we picked up trash and enjoyed the great view and beauty of nature. We went to a local government school in a nearby village and we played a lot of games with those kids, there was dance and even though there was a language gap which restricted communication still it was really good and personally I felt proud that I contributed to the society in some way. One of the problems which was especially faced by me was a week before the CAS trip I twisted my ankle. This made it really hard to trek with my leg still I was able to do it. In this trip there were more activities like zipline and obstacle course but due to my strained leg I wasn’t able to perform them. I even realized how hard it is for me to socially connect with people and that I should improve myself so this trip even helped me self evaluate my self.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
The biggest challenge of the whole CAS trip was trekking and this was mainly because of the weather which made it really hard to trek at the same time there were chances to slip and I had to have a firm grip on the ground which was very challenging. I slipped multiple times during the climb and it was really challenging physically. Because of this experience through I was able to develop my understand about trekking, I gained a lot of experience which will help me in future if I am doing a similar activity.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
In this trip there was some planning involved when me and my friends were trying to interact with children in the government school and deciding what kind of activities’ and games should we play together so in this place there was a lot of planning which was involved. We had to plan How to communicate with children, Which games should we play with them, and how to gave them a really great time.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collabratively
Collaboration was involved in some or the other way in all the activities like during the trekking because of the bad weather the ground was wet so everyone had to help each other in order to climb up and especially when I had a twisted leg people around me helped me climb up and down the hill. Collaboration was involved in dam cleaning because the dam was a bit messy so a single person didn’t have the ability tom clean the dam, Everyone had to help each other where one held the bag whereas the other picked up trash so proper collaboration and organization made the activity successful. Collaboration was involved during the planning of the activates to do during the service in the government school.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance.
One issue is the lack of cleanliness and hygiene around the rural areas. But by initiating myself in the cleaning of the dam I was able to engage with the global issue at the same time another big global issue is the lack of quality education and awareness about the world which kids in rural areas weren’t provided enough with so by engaging myself in the interaction with kids in the government schools and personally talking to them I was able to engage with these issues too.
