Clean up drive – Service

I participated in a cleanup drive to help restore the natural beauty of local water bodies. Over three sessions—two at the Tapi River walkway and one at Dumas Beach—I joined a team of volunteers in removing waste and plastic litter from the area. The initiative aimed to reduce pollution, protect marine life, and promote environmental responsibility. Working together, we collected heaps of discarded plastic and other waste, leaving the surroundings cleaner and more inviting. This experience deepened my awareness of environmental conservation and reinforced the importance of community action in tackling pollution and preserving nature for future generations.
Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
During the cleanup drive, we worked efficiently as a team by allocating specific areas to different members. This division of tasks ensured that the entire space was covered systematically. Collaborating with others not only made the process faster but also strengthened our teamwork and communication skills, reinforcing the importance of collective action in addressing environmental issues.
Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Marine pollution is a critical global issue that threatens ecosystems and biodiversity. By participating in this cleanup drive, I actively contributed to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Life Below Water, which emphasizes protecting marine life from pollution. Addressing plastic waste is essential to ensure cleaner water bodies, healthier aquatic ecosystems, and a more sustainable environment for future generations.
Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
The cleanup drive highlighted the ethical responsibility of individuals toward environmental conservation. Littering and plastic pollution harm marine life and disrupt ecosystems. While I was indirectly affected, witnessing the extent of pollution made me more conscious of human impact on nature. Before this activity, I acknowledged pollution as an issue, but after actively cleaning it, I became more committed to sustainable practices and advocating for responsible waste disposal. This experience reinforced my belief that small actions can lead to meaningful environmental change.
