Every year, Fountainhead school hosts a community service programme that provides activities and opportunity for self-exploration and enjoyment for the underprivileged children. Through this program, kids can learn games, dance, arts and crafts, sports, etc. Participating in community service was a great opportunity to interact with the children and also teach them about arts and craft.
I have always been interested in arts and crafts, but I’m not good with it, which is why I never really got to explore my creative side. However, knowing there is an arts and crafts segment in this program I decided to take part in it which would help me to explore my creative side.
LO5 (Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively)
As I mentioned above, at once there were many children present which was a challenge for me and the group. We mutually agreed to divide the task amongst us to make it easier for us to teach the children and help them around. Working collaboratively made the session engaging and easy to handle the children. With few of the children it was kind of difficult to communicate because of the language barrier but working in cooperation it was easy to handle every child and also making sure they participated in the activities.
LO6 (Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance)
While the government provides basic education, I recognized the need for children to go beyond academics and explore extracurricular activities. As part of my involvement, I helped organize and facilitate programs where children could engage in arts that encourage self-expression and skill development. Through this initiative, I supported children in discovering their talents and interests, fostering their personal growth, and enhancing their overall educational experience
LO7 (Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions)
While teaching the kids different activities, the ethical decisions were in note as it helps for every child to develop holistic skills. It is an ethical decision to teach the children extracurricular activities as they have basic education. We made sure that no resource is being wasted and is used to its fullest. Participating in community service was a great experience, all the 6 sessions were very fun with the children.
In conclusion, working collaboratively with the team and working on my creative skills was great. Throughout the event, I developed the learner profile “Communicator†as communicating with the children was difficult as not everyone was comfortable with us so we had to be more interactive with them and make sure they enjoyed all the sessions. This event gave me a chance to teach the underprivileged children and have fun with them.
