For my component of service, I participated in a community service initiative where I was part of the football committee. I created an enjoyable and stimulating environment while teaching the fundamentals of football to kids from disadvantaged schools. I was able to combine my love of football with a worthwhile method to give back to the community during the six-week classes held at our school.
LO5: Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively
A crucial component of this approach was collaboration. Together, my classmates and I overcame language barriers and managed sizable groups of kids. For example, a teammate who was proficient in Gujarati assisted in translating instructions, which improved the effectiveness of the sessions. By cooperating, we were able to effectively manage difficulties and establish a welcoming atmosphere for the attendees.
LO6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
This program promoted physical well-being and equal access to opportunity, among other worldwide challenges. We supported SDGs 4 (Quality Education) and 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by introducing impoverished kids to a new activity. In addition to offering physical exercise, football helped players develop their confidence, teamwork, and sense of accomplishment.
LO7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
I worked hard to make sure every kid felt involved and appreciated during the program. We fostered a supportive and upbeat atmosphere by stressing the value of sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork. Additionally, I made sure that kids of all ability levels could participate in the activities, which boosted their self-esteem.
The experience of serving on the football committee was incredibly fulfilling. It gave me the chance to combine my love of football with the chance to significantly improve the lives of kids. The program forced me to take risks, develop my leadership abilities, and get involved with more general social issues. It reaffirmed the value of cooperation and flexibility, and I’m excited to apply these abilities in upcoming service projects.
