My CAS experience was about teaching Football to the kids from the Government Schools. We had different options in selecting the activities which we want to teach in (like Football , Frisbee , Science Projects , Dance ,Art & Craft and ICT) but I wanted to select the activity which was related to my passion and the skill which I had thus , I selected Football. I’ve been learning football for six years, so it would be enjoyable and simple to teach something you’ve been doing for the same amount of time. There were about 40 students who were teaching about 3-4 schools and our main goal was to help them learn the game , develop their skills and enjoy the 6 days. First , we showed the basics of football (like ball control , dribbling and passing) as only some have the knowledge of the game. Next , we improved and enhanced their game with other techniques like heading , throwing , trapping etc. We also played fun activities like Monkey in the middle and a Shooting competition to keep the kids entertained as they learned. Lastly , we showed them defending , and had a one-to-one and two-to-two duels. On the last day we played a match which showed the skills and the knowledge which they gained in these last days. We also taught them to exercise and calm their body down when they play Football , this also improves their health and restrains them from getting injured. 

Learner Profiles which I had used:

I used the learner profiles of Caring , Open-minded and Communicators. I had to communicate with my group mates who were teaching football in deciding which activity or game to play. The group leaders would plan some football related activities for some time which we had to teach. We also needed to communicate with children and take care of them. Ask if any help was needed or whether they were alright or not. Lastly, treating every kid and student as equal and being open-minded. Respecting them , helping them and teaching them new things which would improve their health and skills while having fun.

Learning Outcome 4 –  Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experiences : 

I needed perseverance and commitment for the community service as it changes the weekly routine. You need to be committed to come to the school during the weekends and that too for 3 weeks. Waking up early , changing the weekend schedule , giving up your 2 hours of work etc, will let you think to stop going on to the Community Service Sessions but if we think from a different perspective , then it will be a chance to showcase our skills  , help the less privileged children , and get a smile on their face. Also showing perseverance and commitment to the tasks and activities which need to be taught to the children and are provided by our leaders.

Learning Outcome 5 –  Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively : 

Teaching the students of almost 3-4 schools is a difficult task and to make sure things go right , we need to work collaboratively. Working with people you know as well as people whom you don’t know. Managing the kids , Seeing that they are following the tasks , Seeing that they don’t do any mischief , escorting them to their areas and even to washrooms was a hardwork and needed a team-effort. We needed to prepare the activities (as in the setup) , teach a group of children and try to master their skills while also checking whether they are doing it correctly or not. Also making sure that they enjoy their 6 days and try to make friends with the supervisors. Additionally , each activity required 2-3 supervisors . 1 who tried to communicate with the kids (explain the activity)  and other 2 who stopped the ball or functioned the whole activity. Like this the communication and collaboration between the groups of supervisors and students make sure that the Community Service runs fruitfully.

Learning Outcome 6 – Demonstrate Engagement with Issues of Global Significance : 

The main issues which we faced was the communication gap as there was no common language between the supervisors (us) and the students. Some students could understand Hindi but not Gujarati while some could understand Gujarati but not Hindi and the same happened with us. Additionally we needed to treat them with respect as they might get hurt. The tough task was to manage the students as we didn’t have experience. Then, to give them detailed instructions about the activities , rules of football , where to go and stand etc.  Also we used the SDG no.10 which is Reduced Inequality. We tried to enhance their skills , make them know more about the game and let them enjoy and play freely. Even they deserved a chance to know about the sport . Even they got a chance to play like how we play  , enjoy like how we enjoy and explore like how we explore.
