Creative mela is an event where students choose an activity that focuses on learning new skills in an engaging and fun manner. It is an effervescent display of creative and artistic skills by proficient artists. The event took place at school on 28th December 2023. There were various categories such as garba, acting, numerous types of painting art, wrestling, etc. I was in the wrestling category and was teamed up with wrestling national champions to teach students basic wrestling techniques and moves. We took the same workshop 3 times for grades 7, 8, and 9 as they came at different assigned times. We started the workshop with a warm-up, stretched a bit, continued with rolls and dive rolls, and then started with basic tackle techniques.

Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

When I first stepped onto the wrestling mat, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement. Wrestling was new to me, but with the help of experienced professionals who were national champions, I was able to learn and teach the basic techniques and moves to the students and practice it with them. It was challenging at times, but I kept at it, and soon enough, I was able to tackle moves I never thought I could do.

Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS

Putting together a wrestling workshop wasn’t easy, but it was definitely rewarding. From deciding what moves to teach to arranging the mats and equipment, there was a lot to plan. I arranged the venue and mats and had the plan discussed with my teacher and his invited colleagues who came as guests to teach in the wrestling workshop.

Through this experience, I learned how to take initiative and be organized. It felt great to see our hard work pay off as the workshop came together. It showed me that with teamwork and good planning, we can achieve big things.

Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

One of the best parts of the workshop was how everyone supported and practiced with each other. We were 4 teachers, 3 professionals and 1 student (me), and we demonstrated the techniques to each other as two pairs. This helped the students to better understand the techniques and try them by themselves. My teacher taught me those techniques before class and I was able to demonstrate them in the workshop. As a team, we were able to address all the students and correct their mistakes during practice.

Overall, the Creative Mela wrestling workshop wasn’t just about learning moves, it was about facing challenges, taking initiative, and working as a team. The experience was very new and engaging for me, and I really enjoyed learning and teaching in the workshop.
