Creative Mela Self-Defense and Wrestling Sessions

In this CAS experience, I organized sessions on self-defense and wrestling with 2 other people. I volunteered and our sessions were held for students of age 12 to age 15. Along with the 2 heads, we also called upon 2 professional wrestlers to better teach the kids self-defense techniques and for them to receive a more hands on experience. In this exercise, I exhibited the activity component whilst demonstrating and practicing with the children on the wrestling techniques.

I too learnt many things about self-defense along with the kids from the instructor which was an added benefit of learning for me. We also engaged the kids in many physical exercises before the practice sessions for them to learn warm-up and its importance as well as maintaining fitness and health. We also discussed the importance of physical health and self-defense for not relying on anyone for one’s safety and we conducted the sessions in ways that would also clear previous notions of the children feeling self-defense to be too hard or difficult, also the fact that self-defense is for our protection and to maintain one’s security not to harm someone else which is kind of a responsibility of the teacher as well as the student as possessing these skills afterwards is a responsibility for the protection of oneself, other and making sure people don’t get harmed. These sessions were also to explain and make the kids understand the necessity as well as the simplicity of learning and practicing self-defense.

Learning Outcome 1 –  Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:

Since I had no idea about wrestling and I don’t engage in physical activities regularly either, I faced a lot of difficulties learning the displaying activities. I found it extremely challenging but I found myself to exhibit a natural brute strength in wrestling that I shocked myself too. In the exhibition of certain techniques and maneuvers, I found flexibility and agility to be a very difficult aspect of the sport. I found stretching a lot to be tiresome and difficult and outside my regular activities’ list. I understood that I need to work on my endurance and flexibility and in the process of this experience, I started on it too.

Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:

I struggled with getting used to a lot of physical strain and activities. I undertook much physical training just to be fit enough to present my exhibition to the kids. I needed to work daily to be able to present intense wrestling exercises to the kids and be able to do them myself. I worked on my fitness and the areas of growth I had identified such as my flexibility and endurance, according to the exhibiting techniques, and my agility. I struggled with these things but it taught me the importance of fitness in my life and I developed a lot of skills because of it, leading me to exercise daily.

Learning Outcome 3 – Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience:

I initiated and planned this CAS experience with my co planners from the things to teach to the communication of instructions and managing the experience along with dealing with situations during the events.

Learning Outcome 4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:

As previously said, I had several problems and barriers when I first began practicing, and it was mainly through resolve and self-discipline that I was able to progressively conquer them. Solely by means of pure effort and perseverance could I force myself to attempt it see how things will turn out. My regular athletic regimens to improve stamina, resilience, agility, mobility, and other skills were a difficult trip for me, and strict adherence was the only thing that kept me going and led me to reach my goals.

Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:

A lot of the work and the decisions that we made for the event were changed just a few days before the sessions and I had felt that it would be really difficult to implement them and run successful sessions yet by working on our individual aspects and collaborating and connecting and keeping each other in the loop as well as asking for each other’s helps, we managed to make a lot of good decisions and changes as well as manage and run the whole event successfully.
