This year, our school held a creative mela, an event dedicated to promote creativity among young minds and show a display of artistic skills. I volunteered for creative mela to help enhance my creative skills while also promote creativity among young minds.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

To being with, I am not someone from a very creative background. I love analytical stuff and I love sciences. However I wanted to take this opportunity to help me develop an interest for art, and convey the same to young students. I started out by doing some doodling practice (which was my assigned stall) so that I can guide the students coming to my stalls. I could easily connect to surroundings and come up with doodles, however expression of ideas was something that needed development.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

One challenge was throughout the creative mela was to keep student engagement. Some students coming to the doodling section were not interested in doodling, so in-order from them to get ideas I had to interact with few students to understand what they think and how often they doodle. For me, connecting to some students was easy, while some were difficult to understand. Nevertheless guidance from art teachers and my facilitators I was able to guide most of the children to do the doodle. Another challenge was to communicate ideas into visuals, which took practice but over time It was easy to convey ideas to children easily as I got more and more used to it and interacted with more children.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.

For this CAS, we were supposed to work as a team of 4 people on the same section (doodling). Interacting with team member, assigning roles and working collaboratively made the task much simpler as each set of team member had equal roles and we could guide more number of people in short time. Before the event, we also helped out other people from different stalls to setup their stalls, again working as a huge team volunteering for the creative mela, helped bring the event to life and also a success.

In conclusion, with the help of this CAS experience I was able to enhance my creative and collaborative skills to help promote art and creativity.
