This CAS experience describes the preparation and conduction of a Cricket Tournament for the school’s support staff. Our objective was to encourage support staff connection and spark friendly rivalry. To manage a throng this large, we collaborated to pslan the event. In our capacity as the tournament organizer, we were responsible for overseeing the entire planning process of the event.
Securing school consent and space: We met with the school administration to present our idea, address potential issues we may encounter, and obtain permission to utilize the school’s basketball court as a designated location for the event.
Tournament format and fixtures planning: We decided upon the time required for conducting the tournament. We finalized the rules of the game, format of the fixtures, and divided the teams. We determined the regulations and structure for the tournament, taking into account team size, time limitations, and suitable age categories.
LO3: Initiating and Planning a CAS Experience
This endeavor requires initiative and ownership from the beginning. Recognizing the need for a community-building event with friendly competition, we investigated comparable events and devised a strategy appropriate to our school’s setting and resources. This experience helped us strengthen our planning and organisational abilities, as well as our capacity to start and lead change.
L4. Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
There were several ups and downs. First of all managing the support staff itself required perseverance. Explaining the rules and regulations was a tough task, since everyone was a tough job. We had to remain committed throughout.
L5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
The success of this event was greatly dependent on teamwork. We worked together to:
Create a coherent plan: We effectively communicated ideas, divided duties based on strengths, and ensured that all components of the event (activities, tournament) were properly organized. We were also accompanied by the event team.
Delegate and manage tasks: We divided responsibilities based on individual abilities and interests, and we checked in with one another to assure progress. The 3 of us were assigned the duties of the main umpire, leg umpire and scorer.
Resolve problems collaboratively: When we encountered difficulties, we explored solutions as a group and implemented the best course of action.
This event improved our capacity to operate successfully as a team, recognize varied contributions, and reach a shared objective.
In conclusion, organizing a cricket tournament was a wonderful CAS experience. This allowed us to improve our organizational and communication abilities while also providing the school’s support staff a sense of belonging. We learnt vital event management skills, but we also developed a better knowledge of the value of cooperation, perseverance, and initiative.
