Donate food drive was organised by our school for helping our community. It happened during every Saturday in September and October months. The whole idea was to get us students involved in doing something good for our community, specifically by giving food to kids who didn`t have as much as we did. We were split into different groups, and I was allocated to group A. Our task was to go to this school called Hope School, which is located at Gautam Buddha Nagar Roongta Mall Lane in Vesu, Surat. But in this activity it wasn’t just only donating food instead our idea was to spend some quality time with the kids there. We wanted to make them happy and we also wanted to teach them some useful stuff and help them with their schoolwork. We really hoped to make a positive impact on their lives and making them educated.
When we got to Hope School, it wasn’t just about donating food, we also played games with the kids, had a good laugh together, and tried to create a warm and friendly vibe. On top of that, we took the chance to teach them things they might find helpful and offered support for their school studies. It was all about not just giving them food but also spending time with them and helping them learn and grow. This activity not only was helpful for the kids out there but also helpful for me because I got to develop different skills for myself which was one of the best things for me in this whole CAS experience. There were a various learning outcomes I got from this experience like:-
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:-
Our ability to work together was a significant factor in making the food drive successful. Interacting with a large number of kids required a coordinated effort. It became evident that individual efforts wouldn’t have been as impactful in helping the children effectively. With so many people involved, collaboration was essential to manage the situation efficiently. The importance of teamwork became particularly apparent in our interactions with the kids. Managing a large group of children and ensuring that our time with them was meaningful required effective coordination among the team members. Collaborating allowed us to create an engaging and positive session that was not only enjoyable for the kids but also provided an opportunity for us to develop important skills and knowledge. Moreover, the collaborative aspect was crucial in the success of the entire initiative, from engaging with the kids to the subsequent food donation. The combined efforts of the team were necessary to ensure that our attempt to support the community was effective and impactful.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance:-
Global issues like Zero hunger and Quality education for everyone are crucial, and the United Nations has set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to address these challenges. To actively contribute to solving these issues, we decided to take action among our societies . Our initiative involved visiting Hope School, where we aimed to support underprivileged children who faced difficulties in getting proper education and proper meals due to financial issues in their families. We believed in a holistic approach, understanding that both education and nutrition are interconnected aspects of a child’s well-being. By participating in activities at Hope School, we not only aligned with the UN SDGs but also played a part in creating a more sustainable and fair world. Our efforts at Hope School underline the belief that collective, small steps can lead to significant positive changes. By taking action, we contribute to addressing global challenges and making a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need support.
Learner Profile Attribute:-
- Open-minded – Speaking with a variety of people is a necessary part of participating in a food drive, for both volunteers and the childrens there of. Being open-minded, and understanding of different viewpoints and backgrounds was probably necessary in order to function well with the kids out there so that we could effectively provide some of the quality skills to them in that mean time while donating food.
- Communicator- Effective communication is required for successful planning and execution of activities such as food donation drives. The ability to assign tasks, communicate clearly in order to maintain discipline during food donation, and ensure that everyone understands their responsibilities helped the initiative run smoothly. Aside from food donations, effective communication was essential when providing education because without it, we would not be able to enlighten the little minds over there comfortably, and thus they would not be able to ask questions or study properly.
To summarize, this food donation drive was a very enjoyable experience for me, whether I was donating food to children or spending time with them and having fun.
