For my CAS experience this term, I helped coordinate a food donation drive & educated needy children to support underserved communities in my city of Surat. The donations were directly made to a community center.
Going into this experience, my goal was to assist those facing food insecurity. I hoped that through delivering meals and basic supplies, we could make a meaningful difference, even if small. Spending time each Saturday and Sunday teaching basic numeracy and literacy skills to the children was another way I aimed to give back.
Organizing collection efforts and transportation of goods required strong planning and follow-through. On distribution days, engaging positively with recipients taught me the importance of empathy, respect, and cultural awareness. Connecting with the children through educational activities further developed my patience and communication skills.
Despite some initial apprehension about interacting in a new environment, I gained confidence through this experience. Witnessing gratitude from those we served reinforced my commitment to serving the community. These lessons of compassion have stuck with me deeply.
This CAS project allowed me to address issues of global significance locally, meeting Learning Outcome 6. I challenged myself outside my comfort zone, reflecting on Growth 2. Through coordinated efforts with classmates, the benefits of collaboration per LO5 were clear. Most importantly, I feel this experience affirmed my ability to initiate positive change from small acts of kindness.
Going forward, I hope to continue identifying ways, big or small, to support those in need through service. This CAS experience was highly rewarding and impactful.
