“Exploring New Horizons: My Internship Experience with a Space Education Company”

This year, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with an organization called SPACE, which specializes in educating students about astronomy and space science. As someone passionate about space exploration and curious about the universe, this internship was closely aligned with my future academic goals. Not only did it allow me to dive deeper into topics I love, but it also provided valuable real-world experience through sessions I conducted at various schools.

Learning Outcome 1: Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth

From the very beginning, this internship made me reflect on my strengths and weaknesses. One of my main tasks was to lead sessions on space science and astronomy in schools. While I’ve always been interested in these subjects, I realized that communicating my knowledge to others was a skill I needed to improve. My weakness in public speaking and explaining complex ideas to students became apparent. However, by consistently interacting with students and guiding them through these sessions, I began to develop better communication skills. This experience allowed me to build confidence in teaching and made me more aware of areas I still need to improve upon, like structuring my explanations more clearly.

Learning Outcome 2: Undertaking Challenges and Developing New Skills

Conducting workshops for students was a significant challenge. While I had the knowledge of astronomy and space science, presenting that information in a way that was engaging and easy to understand required practice and patience. I had to step out of my comfort zone, improve my ability to speak publicly, and explain difficult concepts in simple terms. Additionally, I worked on understanding the students’ needs—sometimes adjusting my sessions on the spot to ensure everyone was keeping up. This challenge helped me develop not only communication skills but also adaptability and patience, which I know will benefit me in the long run.

Learning Outcome 6: Engagement with Global Issues

One of the most meaningful aspects of this internship was seeing how it connected to broader global issues. The workshops that SPACE conducts provide quality education on space science to students, some of whom may not have easy access to such resources. This ties directly into the global issue of the right to quality education. By participating in this internship, I contributed to bringing knowledge about space and the universe to students from various backgrounds, helping inspire the next generation of scientists and space enthusiasts. It was incredibly fulfilling to know that my work was connected to something as important as ensuring every child has access to learning opportunities.

A Learning Journey with Lasting Impact

My internship with SPACE was not just about learning more about astronomy—it was also about discovering my potential and areas for growth. Through leading workshops, I learned that while I have a solid understanding of space science, I needed to work on my communication skills. I also realized that engaging with students and explaining the wonders of the universe is something I truly enjoy. Accepting the challenges that came with this experience and overcoming them has prepared me for future academic and professional pursuits.

This internship was an important part of my CAS journey, giving me a chance to apply my passions in a real-world setting while contributing to the global goal of providing quality education. Overall, it was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to explore my interests, improve my skills, and make a meaningful impact. It’s safe to say that this experience has brought me closer to my dream of a future in space science.
