This school year, I was given the opportunity to be part of the games team organizing activities for the senior farewell celebration. As Games Coordinator, I was responsible for planning and running interactive games that would engage the senior students in a fun, lighthearted experience to send them off. In taking on this role, I knew it would challenge me to demonstrate skills in initiating and coordinating a plan, as well as working collaboratively with others.

In the beginning stages, I spent time brainstorming game ideas that would appeal to everyone and allow for participation across grades. After considering several options, I settled on an interactive guessing game where pictures of seniors from when they were younger would be presented for contestants to identify. To execute this, I worked with two classmates to gather the baby photos and prepare clues for each image. We divided tasks such as contacting seniors for photos, compiling information on backgrounds, printing materials, and setting up the game area(LO3).

Initiating the planning process and delegating responsibilities with my teammates was new for me. While organizing a collaborative project presented unexpected challenges in coordinating schedules and styles, I found that regular communication and establishing clear expectations helped ensure we stayed on track. Coming together to test run the game before the event allowed us to work out any kinks and feel prepared on the day(LO4&5).

On the day of the farewell, I was pleasantly surprised to see the excitement from the seniors as they eagerly participated in guessing the mystery photos. Seeing smiles and laughs as old images were revealed created a lighthearted atmosphere, which was the goal. Facilitating the fast-paced game and working with a partner to engage the crowd tested and enhanced my public speaking and quick-thinking skills(LO2).

Overall, planning and running the interactive guessing game provided valuable experiences that allowed me to develop new skills in leadership, collaboration, coordination and public speaking. Taking the initiative to coordinate the event pushed me outside my comfort zone. While obstacles emerged along the process, working through them with a team reinforced perseverance and highlighted the benefits of cooperation. This activity has helped increase my confidence to spearhead new projects and recognize what I am capable of achieving through determination and group effort. I believe these lessons will serve me well beyond school in any future endeavors requiring initiative, adaptability and teamwork.
