Planted almost 100 trees along with a group of 5–6 students close to our school was a very rewarding activity. We adopted the Miyawaki forest plantation method, which leads to rapid growth, thick forests, and the rebuilding of an ecosystem. Through this activity, I learned not only about environmental conservation but also the value of nature. Learning the value of afforestation and being a part of it made me feel responsible and thankful towards nature. Seeing our efforts fruit was really rewarding.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
This experience taught me something about my teamwork skill and hands-on environmental activities. I could listen carefully and actively participate in the planting activity. But I also learned that I needed to enhance my endurance and patience since planting trees by hand was tiresome.
LO5: Show skills and advantages of working together
We worked in groups of a few and had to allocate the tasks effectively—excavation, planting, watering, and placing the trees where they were supposed to be. Through teamwork, we managed to finish the process without any hitches and learned the value of uniting towards the realization of a common environmental objective.
LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance
Forestation and climate change are the darling issues worldwide, and by launching a tree nursery, we activate a small yet significant solution. Studying Miyawaki only deepened my practice in the techniques of reforestation on a sustainable and local level together with the most significant ecological influences.
LO7: Determine and consider the ethics of choice and action
This meeting made me think about the ethical duty we have to conserve nature. Planting trees helps nature as well as future generations. It reminded me of how crucial it is to make responsible decisions that are friendly to sustainability and minimize human interaction with nature.
