Embarking on a journey of collective action and entrepreneurial creativity, my group and I worked together to sell items such as books, keychains, stationery, hair accessories, and more. Reflecting on this CAS experience, I realize how it allowed me to discover my potential, tackle challenges, develop new skills, and understand the ethical and global implications of our efforts.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
During this project, I identified strengths such as my creativity, organizational skills, and ability to connect with people. These qualities helped me design appealing displays, manage stock, and effectively promote our items to potential customers. However, I also recognized areas for growth, such as managing finances and being more assertive in negotiations. With feedback from my teammates and self-reflection, I worked on these weaknesses, becoming more confident in handling monetary transactions and taking initiative when needed.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Selling various items came with its fair share of challenges, from pricing products competitively to ensuring sufficient stock during peak demand. One of the biggest hurdles was attracting customers and persuading them to buy our items while balancing affordability and quality. These challenges pushed me to develop new skills such as persuasive communication, customer service, and creative problem-solving. For instance, when sales slowed down, we introduced combo offers and discounts, which significantly boosted customer interest and engagement.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
This project required consistent effort and dedication. From brainstorming product ideas to sourcing materials, creating displays, and selling items, we invested hours of hard work. There were times when sales were low, or we felt fatigued from the workload, but we didn’t give up. Instead, we stayed motivated, adjusted our strategies, and remained committed to our goals. Our perseverance paid off, as we eventually met our sales targets and received positive feedback from our customers.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Teamwork was at the heart of this project, and I realized the value of effective collaboration. Each member of our group brought unique strengths to the table, whether it was creativity, leadership, or financial management. By dividing responsibilities and supporting one another, we were able to overcome challenges and work efficiently. Regular communication and mutual respect allowed us to resolve conflicts, share ideas, and achieve our common goals. This experience highlighted how collective effort amplifies success.
LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance
Through this experience, I became more aware of issues like consumer behavior, sustainable practices, and ethical production. We made a conscious effort to source and sell items that were practical, reusable, and environmentally friendly, reducing waste and promoting mindful consumption. This reinforced the importance of engaging with global challenges, such as environmental sustainability and responsible consumption, even in small-scale projects.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Throughout the project, we prioritized ethical decision-making in all aspects, from pricing items fairly to ensuring transparency in our sales. We were mindful of promoting products honestly, avoiding over-exaggerated claims, and ensuring our customers felt satisfied with their purchases. Additionally, we considered the impact of our actions on the environment and community, striving to create a positive and ethical shopping experience for everyone involved.
This CAS experience of selling books, stationery, keychains, and other items has been a transformative journey. It allowed me to discover and enhance my strengths, develop practical skills like teamwork and financial management, and engage with issues of global significance. Most importantly, it taught me the importance of perseverance, collaboration, and ethical responsibility in achieving our goals. The lessons I’ve learned will stay with me as I take on future challenges, shaping me into a more thoughtful, capable, and socially conscious individual.
