The Business Management and Economics IB DP students at our school recently planned an exciting event called Global Odyssey, and it was a whole lot of fun! This event promoted a sense of community and involvement while showcasing the many talents and skills of the student body. I chose to set up a stand under the “Fun” category for this event, with the intention of making it pleasurable for all participants, along with my friends.
After much deliberation, we came up with the entertaining games Buzz Wire and Ball Toss. To ensure that everyone could play and have a great time, these games were carefully created to accommodate students in grades 7 through 12. We demonstrated our ability to collaborate to achieve a common goal by carefully planning and coordinating the setup of the stall and game preparation.
Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth During the process of designing and implementing our booth, I became aware of my creative and problem-solving abilities. I was also aware of the areas I still needed to work on, such communication and time management. I was inspired to focus on refining these skills even more by this encounter.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills Getting supplies and handling logistics were just two of the difficulties encountered during the stall’s organisation process. We did, however, welcome these difficulties as chances for development. I gained knowledge on how to assign assignments, manage resources efficiently, and deal with unforeseen situations—all abilities that will come in handy in the future.
Learning Outcome 4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience Our crew persevered and stayed dedicated to make our stand a success in spite of setbacks and challenges encountered along the route. We persevered with tenacity and excitement, managing last-minute changes and overcoming technical challenges to ensure that our peers had a positive experience.
Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively The core of our CAS experience was teamwork. My buddies and I were able to overcome obstacles together and take use of each other’s skills by cooperating closely. This event emphasised the value of cooperation and the enormous advantages that result from group effort.
Learning Outcome 7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions We deliberated over the planning phase to make sure that everyone could enjoy, participate fairly, and have fun in our activities. We made sure that our stall respected the principles of honesty and equity by giving ethical considerations like fairness, respect, and diversity first priority.
I not only met these learning objectives but also developed the thinking Learner Profile attribute. Developing games that would engage students of all ages requires careful consideration and tactical preparation. I was able to exhibit my critical thinking skills and adaptability to a variety of situations by carefully taking into account the interests and preferences of our target audience.
All things considered, taking part in Global Odyssey was a rewarding and enriching CAS experience. In addition to giving me the chance to put what I had learned in the classroom into practice, it also offered priceless chances for personal development. This event perfectly captured the spirit of CAS and its life-changing influence on students, from helping them to recognise their strengths and shortcomings to exhibiting resilience and collaboration.
