Global odyssey

For my CAS activity, I participated in my school’s Global Odyssey event where different groups presented on global issues and cultures. As part of the event, my band was asked to perform several songs to entertain the audience between presentations. We rehearsed for many weeks leading up to the event to prepare a selection of upbeat songs featuring various drum rhythms from around the world.

In planning and preparing for our performance, I demonstrated how to initiate and plan a CAS experience (LO3). I worked with my bandmates to select songs, arrange our setlist, and schedule rehearsals. This allowed us to organize our efforts and ensure we were ready on the day.

My role in the band is as the drummer, so I focused on learning and perfecting the different drumming styles of the songs. This challenged me to develop new skills (LO2) as I practiced unfamiliar rhythmic techniques. I had to push myself to master new skills outside my usual musical comfort zone.

Prior to the performance, I recognized my strengths and areas for growth (LO1) as I felt nervous but hoped my drumming ability would meet the challenges of the various songs. Through regular rehearsals I showed commitment and perseverance (LO4) in preparing for this new experience.

On the day, I demonstrated collaboration (LO5) as our intense preparation allowed us to perform cohesively as a band. Working together, we were able to showcase our talents to the audience.

After our set, I gained a better understanding of global business issues (LO6) through an insightful presentation. I recognized how companies must consider ethics (LO7) when operating worldwide.

Overall, this CAS activity allowed me to develop both personally and in my understanding of the world. I was pushed outside my comfort zone but achieved new skills through regular commitment and collaboration with others. I feel this experience has prepared me well for my future path after school.
