As I think back on my incredible experience with Global Odyssey, a unique event that IBDP students organised at Fountainhead School, I’m excited to discuss how our cooperative efforts to set up a food stall allowed us to show dedication, tenacity, and productive teamwork within the CAS framework.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

One thing that I identified with was that I was really good at cooking, earlier I used to think that I cannot cook very hard but with the help of my friends I figured that I really enjoy cooking; baking especially. One weakness that I identified is that I used to mess things up when I was in panic. To change this thing I would like to work on my self-management skills which would help me to handle myself in panic situations.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

It was hard to sometimes keep up with the demand and it was getting very chaotic to give orders to everyone with a lot of people together, it was the most challenging part of Global Odyssey. The second most challenging part of the global odyssey was to actually prepare fresh food. Me and my team prepared the cookies the same night we were selling the cookies. In the morning we were awake till 3 making all the cookie batches. We wanted to make sure that we serve fresh. Also, the aglio olio we made early in the morning about 7 am to make sure that aglio olio stays warm the whole time. To overcome these problems I made sure that I stay calm and sensibly handle the problem and made sure of one thing at a time.

LO3: Starting and Arranging a CAS Event
Being a part of Global Odyssey demonstrated my capacity to organise and lead a significant CAS experience. I took the initiative to organise a food booth with my peers, where we served delicious agli olio slushy and cookie-ice cream (prepaired by us a night before the final day)  to guests while showcasing our cooking skills. I was actively involved in creating our food stand, from designing our menu to planning the finances and scheduling the necessary supplies. This experience gave me priceless insights into collaboration, entrepreneurship, and event planning.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Even though the CAS project was one the planning took part 10 days ago. I have attended all the meetings and sessions related to the discussion of activity. It was important to stay present through all the meetings because in every meeting we used to discuss new activities that are going to be performed or some session would go into making the activity of planning and gathering the resources for the activity. It was sometimes hard to show up for the meeting because of the pack scheduled that I followed but I made sure that I attend every meeting and give my contribution to the activity.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

The key to our food stall’s success at Global Odyssey was teamwork. Together with my peers, we made the best use of our distinctive skills to give guests a seamless and interesting experience. Achieving a seamless running of our booth required excellent teamwork in allocating roles, scheduling shifts and providing customer service. Each participant offered special skills and expertise that created a sense of unity and helping hands amongst all.
As we handled all aspects of our stall—from food preparation to buyer interactions—the benefits of teamwork were clear. We developed strong connections and improved our teamwork skills in addition to delivering delectable goodies via honest communication and cooperative decision-making. The event demonstrated the transformational potential of cooperation in accomplishing common objectives and building deep bonds.

Learner Profile: Communication was the key to our successful food stall as once the food stall was established we communicated well in case of changing roles or dealing with a problem while at the same time we attended the customers that were waiting.  Takeaways: I had learned budgeting, and what all things goes in preparing for a stall.Basically, I experienced a mini version of business work but on a very small scale which would help in my future decision making in my career.
