Global Odyssey is the major event in FS for the Business Management and Economics students. The Global Odyssey event offered students the chance to experience the establishment and functioning of a business. This event was broken down into various categories like Games and Entertainment, Fashion, Food and Photobooth. I was been selected in the Fashion Category.
L1.Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Being in the fashion category wasn’t that easy since communication skills are the most important factor that needs to be taken care of in order to sell your products. During this event, I had exposure to several ideas related to the subject matter, such as marketing and how to balance the cost of the product against the cost of selling it in order to optimize revenues while dealing with clients.
L2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Thinking of a product that would be in demand in the market and would be easily sold wasn’t that easy to choose since there were several factors that needed to be considered before choosing the product such as will that product be sold, will customers like the product, what could be suitable pricing for the product. When I thought about which product to sell, the first thing that came into my mind was Bead Bracelets and Necklace but now after finalizing the product it was very difficult to figure out which type of bracelets to sell which are in demand and hence decided to make a few charmed bracelets and a few normal bead bracelets. After making all the bracelets and necklaces it was time for finalizing the price of each one keeping in mind that the price is affordable for everyone and also that I will be able to make some profit.
L3. Initiate and Plan a CAS experience
A business requires a significant amount of preparation and work to come up with. We started the planning in our BM slots and it took us a couple of days to look for, design, and build the perfect product for our fashion stall. This required us to think of the types of product to be made, the quantity of bracelets each of us would need to make, many approaches we might use to draw in more clients, and the best rates I could charge for my bracelets and necklaces while still making a profit and pleasing our clients. Without our time management techniques, teamwork, and patience, none of this would have been feasible.
L5. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
In global odyssey me and one of my friend paired up and came with products which could be suitable for selling in the event. Collaboration was something that we did not face issue since we both were clear upon what products do we want to sell and hence we both started working on making the products. Both us decided to make the products individually due to a lot of deadline coming up and also to manage time wisely and hence at our own pace we made the products. To make sure everything goes well we collaborated with each other when making the products to make sure each of us are on the same track of making the product and hence on the event day we came up with wonderful products.
L7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
I Kept in mind that my products would be sold at a fair price and that I had to be fair to everyone, not just the people we knew since we know that firm ethics are another crucial component needed to manage a firm. In addition, the school gave 2% of the profit from the event which were generated by each stall to a non-governmental organization.
